Thread: SO Excited!! Received my first letter....kind of...

So I woke up at 6 this morning to an email from CorrLinks asking approval because the guy I chose to write to wanted to add me to his contacts list so I approved it and fell back asleep. Woke back up kinda disappointed that there wasn't an email yet. (I originally sent my letter through WAP on the 5th and it didn't get sent out until the 20th, so I've been "patiently" waiting Lol) Anyways, I decided to write him a somewhat short email saying hello and that I was looking forward to hearing back from him. Literally within 1-2 minutes I got an email from him, not a response but he had already written to me, it just took a couple hours for me to get it. So far I've gotten 2 emails from him today and I'm "patiently" waiting for an expected 3rd I was initially looking forward to physically writing letters, but I think it was really thoughtful of him to want to start out emailing at first because he said he wanted to save me from having to buy some stamps right away (little does he know, I already did Lol)

Just thought I would share my excitement with everyone.

I'm curious, did your pen pal mention anything about the cost of writing? One of mine said it was actually more expensive to email (corrlinks) than to write snail mail but I'm not sure if she meant each individual letter or if it would be expensive to email back and forth etc.

I should point out that I'm in the UK which is why I found it a bit strange that emailing was more expensive than snail mail.

They have to pay to use Corrlinks, they don't get to do it for free.

Yeah, it does seem more expensive. After reading through old posts, I found out that it costs them 5cents a minute to use CorrLinks. I feel kinda bad now because my last response was a but long, so we'll probably be doing snail mail as well, which is fine with me

I do both letters and Corrlinks with my pal and they can take up to 4 hours sometimes as quick as 15 mins but I was confused to start with as I was replying to emails and his reply was about something else until I realised after he was a message behind!

We have conversational emails and then give more details in things in the mail as well

Depends on the inmate. Some are able to receive and send corrlinks messages with just the usual average 2 hour delay regardless of the day of the week and others have greater restrictions placed on them and they have to have each email reviewed before it is sent, and I think the guys who review them generally have weekends off.

It's nice to be able to get them on weekends so everyday can be a mail day now and I know it varies by inmate and facility but seams the can get a lot if access as well so he can send a message before work and late in the evening.

I feel spoilt with it now after waiting weeks and weeks for letters!

Lol I feel a bit spoiled now too, we've emailed back and forth this whole weekend It'll probably slow down a bit during the week because he works, but I think it worked out being able to talk so much right away because it was sort of an icebreaker and we got to know each other a bit. I was kinda worried about it being awkward for the first few letters as it can sometimes be when you're first getting to know someone, but now I don't have to worry about that, and we're going to start writing letters back and forth soon too I think I'll start one tomorrow

I use corrlinks to email my pp, he writes to me everyday at least once including weekends, I have the app on my phone so I know as soon as I've recieved an email, it usually takes about 2 hours from the time he sends it it's great to be able to communicate daily but we still write snail mail once a fortnight and he also sends me things like Origami and American recipes as he know I love America and cooking! I send him pictures every 2 weeks as well as a letter
