Thread: what were your first experiences with writing and recieving a letter ?

Im new to WAP aswell, I sent my first letters at the beginning of September and got replies from both guys. The letter from Texas arrived here in Australia on the 20th and the one from California about a week later.

Both letters have been really nice and pleasent to read, its early days yet but im really glad I wrote to them and was able to brighten thier day.

The worst thing is the wait after sending the email, wondering if todays the day the letter will arrive, but when it does its a fantastic, exciting feeling!!

I was really nervous and apprehensive at first and thought about writing to a prisoner for a long time and after asking loads of questions here (which were answered in a friendly manner) but Im really glad I did it, I havent gone in with too many expectations but If I get a wonderful friendship thats even better!!!

For me it's a bit different because I have two entirely separate WAP experiences. The first one about 10 years ago, total fail. So when I tried again I wasn't really expecting much to happen good but thought I'd try and if it went poorly, oh well, there wouldn't be a third time. The guy who I was most reluctant to actually send the letter to (I think I looked at his ad for 5 weeks before I sent him a letter finally) turned out to be the one I am closest to.

You really don't know what you're going to get. Hope all yours are great from the start.

Well I do know "some people" from WAP pen pal ad who can do the job of breaking down the door. LOL sorry my weird sense of humor at work here.

It was TORTURE waiting for the 1st letter from my PP. Because it took so damn long to get back to me. For my 1st letter to him, I emailed to him thru WAP and it didn't get sent out till much later, then he hesitated for afew days to decide if he wants to write as he had enough of weirdos writing him (his words, not mine), and when he finally decided to, it took another 14 days to reach me. But the wait is worth it. I was squealing like QB when I got my 1st letter. I still do, alittle bit. lol. Think I was lucky to find a friend who is on the same wavelength and I truly enjoy writing to him. I hope you will have a good experience too in writing.

i'm in freakin' heaven... i been going around today taking pics. for him. i have sent 17 so far, plus these will go out tomorrow. me and this man are on the page.

I came across WAP when I was doing research for a short story I was writing. One of the characters was in prison and I was googling the prison. I started looking at the ads looking for someone who was in that prison. Instead, I came across one for someone in a nearby prison, and the ad just jumped out at me. I've always been into having pen pals. When I was a teenager, I had about 60 at one point. We swapped friendship books and whatnot. I got out of it when the internet came along, but I missed writing letters.

I followed WAP's suggestions for writing a first letter. When I got one back, I was so excited that I thought I'd do back flips around the parking lot. I used to be so excited to get one that I'd open it right outside the mailbox place. I'm a little more restrained now.

I think it is still a wonderful experience to receive a first letter! Even if it may turn out later that it doesn't work. Apart from the content, I always find it so exciting to see all their different handwriting styles, I mean some of them really "draw" their letters more than writing them And also I like to see all their different ways of expressing themselves and so on. It may sound weird but I think you can read a "character" out of their letters. In some way. Often. lol.

I too waited impatiently for the first letter full of excitement and anxiety. I was never a writer though, I did exchange letters with my cousin alot when we were young lol so it was completely new for me also it being overseas. It's not the exact same feeling like I had then but I still look very much forward to his letters. Some way and some how it's different and ''deeper'' than calls etc. Happy writings!

I still haven't received a letter yet, my cousin got a letter in 8 days and she lives in Belgium too so I'm a little bit worried that they didn't like the letters or they don't want to send a letter back.
