You are correct in that mode you can preview. Thanks for pointing it out. I would still like an edit feature however.

Me too. It just makes sense. Maybe you'll get an answer for all of us.

Because a thread is a living thing, people can always contribute to it. In some cases many years back, people were editing their posts, and the content would change drastically enough to throw the posts below it off. This was the same case with someone who decided to go in and wipe out their old posts. It made the content below it appear misplaced or incorrect. In short, it disrupted the flow of the thread. This happened to many threads, so we took away the option.

As ArtemisIsLove said, you have the option to preview before posting. I would very much like to give everyone the option to edit, but the truth is that it caused problems on here before, so I suspect it would cause problems on here again. There is certainly no great design underway to prevent people from correcting typos. I am just trying to preserve the flow and context of the threads. I had hoped the software that we use to power the forum would have provided some updates to help, but we are still stuck with pretty standard settings on this topic. I would love to provide people one hour or so of editing time from an initial post, but that’s just not an option right now.

Thanks for the info Adam. It would be nice but now I can see how it could be abused.

Thanks Adam for explaining to us the reason for the decision and it does make sense that it would or could be abused and cause disruption of thought. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to us and for answering my message to you. All of your efforts are sincerely appreciated.

I used to hang out at a forum where you could edit your posts for about an hour or until someone had replied to them. Wouldnt that work here?

I was about to mention that. this other forum I'm on allows you 20 minutes of editing time before you can't edit it anymore. ah well.

I heard from a friend with a possible solution, and I have tried to implelement the change. Please test this if you would. Try to edit a post immediately after posting it, and try to edit an old post from say a day or more ago. If this works, we may have a solution here.

I edited my post immediately but I can't edit my old post (the one above yours). hope that helps!
