Unhappy Are there anymore Death row Pen-Pals???

I've tried to look up death row inmates that I could maybe write to but when I found the right site, there weren't too many to choose from? Is there a user friendly site for finding young adults on death row or another site for such inmates, I am trying to challenge myself with a death row inmate as its some what different than writing a average inmate...who can help me here????

There are around 3000 inmates on DR in America, but not all of them have adverts on sites like WAP. Many states have their inmates listed online, so pick a state that has a DR and then see who is on it. That's probably a simpler way of finding young adults on DR than relying on penpal sites like WAP. Though with the time the appeals process takes in the US, most DR inmates are in their 30s and above.

You could try speaking to your minister or chaplain to see if there are any programs they know of that pair people with pen pals on Death Row. These services are vetted a bit more than just an online advert. I don't know about how much they might cost to join or sign up for, but I'm sure that there will be a couple based somewhere in Australia and they do often tend to be run via ministries/churches; so even if there isn't one based directly in your area, your own minister/pastor/priest should be able to find out the details for you and put you in touch with a society you can join. I think they also help with supporting you in your decision to write to an DR inmate, which I imagine can be quite harrowing and give you advice on how best to proceed.

If people in the UK want to write to those on death row, consider Lifelines. They are a very friendly and helpful small organisation that will hook you up with an inmate, send you guidelines and regulations for their specific living conditions, and generally offer help and support. There's an annual fee of £25 which includes newsletters, one for yourself and another for your penpal, and helps correspondence with the inmates that they work with.

There is also the Death Row Support Project. Although it is a religious organization, you do not have to be religious and they will make an effort to match you with someone you'll be compatible with (but of course, one of the lovely parts of writing a DR inmate or any inmate is getting to know someone who might be very different from you!). I was connected with my pen pal through DRSP and the people who work & volunteer with them are so pleasant, thoughtful, and compassionate! As a younger person, I had to wait a little longer for a pen pal because they do try and match people up with pen pals they'll have something in common with (and someone in their 20s might not have much in common at all with a person in their 60s!). Their website is Death Row Support Project | Church of the Brethren. Even if you don't end up finding a pen pal through them, I definitely recommend checking out the stories of people (both prisoners and their penpals) who have participated as well as their FAQ!

You also can look for pen pals on this website: GCADP.ORG It's the site of the German Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty!

How long ago did you send your mail? Sometimes a reply can take a week or two - by email - or up to seven by post...
