    Make your mind up!

Lockdowns only really affect those on the outside if you are used to speaking to the inmate daily, or you are planning to visit at that time. Prisons go on lockdown all the time. Just keep writing to him.

If the prison is on lockdown due to a violent situation where inmates and/or guards were injured or killed, there is very likely an investigation going on. If this is the case, then there is really nothing the prison staff can tell you other than, "We're still on lockdown." If they tell you anything more, they run the risk of compromising an investigation. They can't even tell you how long the lockdown will last, as that is up to the discretion of the warden.

According to who? The inmate to whom you write?

Look, CO's are just like every other work population - some employees are going to be worse than others, but you can't tar everyone with the same brush based on hearsay.
Would you rather have the prison CO's spend time answering phones and dealing with questions which they can't give answers to for privacy or security reasons, or have those CO's handing out food trays and mail and trying to make sure inmates get out of their cells for a shower during the course of the lock down?

My friend says recently they were locked down a whole week because someone had tried to escape so they locked everyone else down all that time . During locked down you have to walk in line to chow one dorm at a time and it's very stressful with 100's of inmates locked in one area for so long . People get cabin fever . I feel bad for them when that happens because they are already confined then add a lock down on top of that is extra stressful .
