I don't understand the rush to supply postage when this is so new.

I do help my friend with postage, but did this after months and months of writing one another. I would never have immediately offered to help him. I had to get to know him to see what kind of person he is before I would contribute anything to him.

We are now close and know each other very well. I have no qualms about supplying stamps, paper, and envelopes. We are in California.

Oh, and for the record, he never asked for help with supplies.

    I don't get it either...
And yet they wonder why they get scammed so easily and are butthurt when you say it is their own fault. Writing should be about what you can offer on an emotional/friendship level, not on a financial level. Especially not after a first letter when you don't even know if it is even gonna last.

Here's my Christmas Jitters Fanfiction in the making. Would love some feedback:

I send money via Jpay and my inmate said I could buy US global stamps (they're all the same and they cost about a pound) on ebay and send them, so I believe it's okay to buy a few online and send it with the letter. I asked him if that was okay with the officers (they're basically stickers right? lol) and I'm waiting for his reponse But Jpay is instant and goes straight to their comissary.

Depends which state your penpals are in. Few states permit stamps to be sent in from outside.

I'm also UK based and writing to a prisoner in Kentucky.
Not all institutions have JPay facilities. Beware the Us prison system is geared for business.
With Jpay you have the option purchasing digital stamps say 20 for $8.80 or about ?6. As mentioned you can tick the checkbox to include a stamp for them to reply to your email message, or you can transfer some of your stamps to them. Ever page costs a stamp as does every image that you attach.
Jpay is not uniformly rolled out across all states and institutions. Some places only have the basic Jpay email stuff, whilst others might have video facilities or JPay Tablets (think of these as the US prison version of an Amazon Fire tablets).
You can also transfer money if you decide to via JPay that they can then use to purchase stamps from the Commissary. It depends upon how you feel about sending money, but be aware there are some scammers out there, so please heed all the warnings on this site. They work as slaves often for a dollar a day, and get paid into a State Pay account at the end of the month, so it can be very tough for some individuals financially.
