You are welcome Ririwoo. I've been writing maybe 6 months. For me it started with someone I learned of that was in London and then expanded to a couple others.
Do you think your pal has access to the postage to write back to France? It shouldn't be too much of an issue, currently $1.15 in postage gets a 1 ounce letter worldwide out of the U.S. Inside the U.S. it is $0.49, so international is a bit over twice that amount.

Hello Ririwoo I'm glad to hear your pal did have willing to correspond overseas in the ad. Postage shouldn't be a problem for that person then. It seems inmates are all different, some have next to nothing, and some have plenty deposited to their trust account to be able to buy things. The person in London I write to currently - I believe he has about 4 years on his sentence. I do plan to meet him some day. I just received a letter from him today actually and it was so good. I live in Buffalo, NY USA which is a bit south of Niagara Falls.

I hope you get a response. From what I've seen others say that sometimes if you don't get a response in a month or two you can try one more time just in case the first letter didn't make it through for some reason, but that you won't always get a response from everyone you write to for any of a number of reasons, so in that case it can help to just pick out another prisoner or two and try again.

Some prisoners also have so many pen pals that they are too busy for new ones. :-) Especially when they are "famous cases", you know what I mean? But - of course - there could be much more reasons, why some guys don't answer. My first penpal hadn't written my address correct, but the postman here was so smart, that he knew, where he has to put the letter. So I get the letter, but just by accident. :-)

That feeling when u know that person so far away from you can be so close of u is speechless right?!! @porcupine73 it is like we should switch our places lol. I know London it is such a great City. It is not too far from my place. If ever u want to come visit him I could go with u if u like it would be ur first time in Europe? So it took 3 weeks from France to Texas to get a reply you guys.

Wonderful glad you got a response Ririwoo. Thanks for offering to go with me if I go to London to visit inmates. I was there once about 15 years ago. France I liked, I met up with my sister there since she lives in England, and we stayed a couple weeks and toured the Remy Martin facility and some other things.

To get notification of replies if you look near the top where it says 'thread tools' it should have something to say 'subscribe to this thread'. The subscription is what will notify you by email of new replies.

Thank you so much @porcupine73. As I was online through my mobile I couldn't see that thread tool. The facility in London must be far from greater London, how far is it? I'm so excited to see that first letter , and still have a doubt he says something negative in it. The person you are writing to is supposed to stay a long time in jail? I saw we can visit our pen pal for 6hours if we come from overseas! Do you know how it is happening? Is it in a special room? Can we eat with them? There is still so much I have to learn

Hi there dearest Ririwoo37. I'm glad you found the thread tool. The person I was writing to was about 30 miles from London it looked like. I was a bit surprised how many prisons there are in England, but then, what am I talking about, the U.S. has a high incarceration rate too. I think he has about 4 years on his sentence. For visiting your pen pal at the Scott unit it's probably best to research it all thoroughly online first. It looks like Texas has some of the stricter rules for correspondence and visits in general. I was looking at https://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/visitation/index.html. It looks like it says if you traveled more than 250 miles (which I guess your journey would qualify!) and the warden approves it can be a visit up to 4 hours in length. The pen pal has to add you to his/her visitor list it looks like. Wow it's a lot of rules https://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documen...on_English.pdf

Thanks so much for all the information! It is nice of you. I read ?Special visits or visits requiring special accommodations should be arranged prior to the visit? . Does it mean they can find visitors like me a place to stay ? I mean for the 2days special visit they refer to. Waw i didnt know they were so many jails in London, even if I used to live there. Do u write to penpals in US too? It is my first letter and I already am thinking about visiting lol. How long have you waited until visiting or considering it?
