Why/how do threads become "CLOSED THREAD" status?

I'm just curious how threads become CLOSED and cannot be replied to.

That happens when a moderator closes it. Why it's closed is their decision.

I didn't think it was inappropriate, but yeah... I'm not the one closing threads. I can imagine that if a thread got out of hand that they might close it. e.g. a discussion getting out of hand... etc. But if you really want to know you could email them, as English suggested. I think because it went out of hand, people getting 'personal' and all. Death Penalty is a sensitive subject for eberyone with lots of emotion involved and can easily go out of hand, I think they thought something like 'this doesn't make sense anymore'.
But then again, almost EVERY thread here goes offtopic. Or doesn't make sense after a while.
