    Default Visitor List Question

Hey everyone. I've got to bother ya'll again with another question. I might be able to describe where the Visitation List paperwork is kept and what it looks like, but as far as the technicalities behind who can and cannot go on it is not something I ever had to deal with

So here goes... I know, given the fact that I'm a previous employee of TDCJ, that would not be approved for a visit until 24mo have lapsed from my separation date. However, from what I have come to understand, inmates can only call people who are on their visitation list. I do know (from my experience) there have been people on inmates' visitation lists that are noted as a "disapproved visitor." Will I actually have to wait 24mo before I can get calls from my PP? Or can I be placed on his list so I can receive calls from him and just not be allowed to visit him?

I hope this makes sense lol I'm a little scatterbrained right now! Sleep deprivation will do that to ya! I have found myself in such a specific situation that it makes it quite difficult to find much information out what to do, or rather, what I cannot do. So any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, ya'll!

It is usually sensible to take TDCJ's rules literally. So if it says you cannot receive calls if you are not on the visitation list then you would need to be on the visitation list to receive calls. If it says you cannot be on the visitation list until after 24 months have passed since you ceased to be employed by TDCJ, then you should expect to have to wait at least 24 months - and having worked for TDCJ you will know that it will almost certainly be longer than 24 months by the time you get approved, if you get approved at all.

You can survive without calls. Plenty of us do.

    but haven't you moved away?

i don't know the technicalities, but really, all it takes to get on a TDCJ's visitor's list is a name and address. you won't have the same address as you did when you worked there. can always try, right? i don't know about the phone call thing since my friend can't make phone calls.

Sunray, I absolutely do take TDCJ rules literally- and seriously. The part you failed to understand was that there is no policy that states I cannot be put on a visitation list; there only exists a policy stating that I cannot visit a TDCJ facility for a minimum of 24mo after my separation date. As I stated (and herein lies the question), there ARE (through personal experience) people listed on offender's Visitation Lists that are, for a variety of reasons (attempting to bring in contraband, not properly watching their children during prior visits, creating a disturbance during a vist, AND being a current/previous TDCJ employee), considered a "Disapproved Visitor" and will not be allowed into the facility were they to show up. However, although their visit would be denied, they are still listed on on the offender's form and in the agency's records, and can therefore receive phone calls. So, while still following ALL TDCJ policies, I could, in theory, be on the visitation list as a disapproved visitor. I was asking for anymore insight into the matter. Perhaps someone knew something that I do not. Obviously, it will take a significantly long time before I am allowed to visit; I'm not a fool. And yes, I can absolutely survive without calls. But if I don't need to, why would I?

Moxie: Exactly. I figure it can't hurt. The worst case is that it will be denied. And yes, I have moved away, but eventually, and quite some time down the road, I would like to move back to Texas. I was thinking about what it takes to be placed on the visitor list. My address is different than what is on file with TDCJ, but I have quite a unique last name. However, they couldn't deny a change on a visitation form based purely on suspicion, no? The question will (I imagine) really boil down to who is it that reviews changes to the visitation forms? lol Thanks a bunch for your imput, though!

i don't see anything wrong with trying. i mean, it's not like she's saying she wants to go visit right now. seems to me she's pretty acceptable of the fact that she can't for 2 years, right? all she wants is phone calls. there's nothing wrong with that. yeah, some of us are hella jealous that she can (possibly) get them (i am for sure!), but i still don't see where the harm is in trying.

I agree! I wish I could have H. call me, but I'm not jealous at those who can get the phone calls. Of course she should try!!! And I really hope she can have them.
