Why would someone be in maximium for 1 charge(robbery) for I think 9 years(NYS Docs seem to be down at the moment)? Yes it's a crime but people get less years for worse! Any one have any thoughts on this?
Thank you

Is the individual in a maximum security prison? or is the offender in 'segregation'?
Maximum security prisons generally have different custody levels. A person can be in a maximum security prison and have a minimum custody status and minimum security housing.
Just because an offender is in a maximum security prison, it doesn't mean they are housed in a maximum setting.
When an offender goes into the system they go through a classification process and the classification process determines their initial housing and custody status.
The housing and custody status can change based on the offenders behavior and it can give them more or less freedom on the inside.

Thank you Skye. It appears PP got 12 years, I just thought it seemed like alot. PP is in max. I did some research and seems if it was violent crime or involved a gun could get 12.5 to 15, I always thought if weapon was used or possessed it would have that charge too. It also says PP not up for parole until 2 months prior to release date and that seemed odd too.
