Allow TDCJ inmates to call overseas using the inmate phone system

Currently, TDCJ inmates are not permitted to make overseas calls to individuals on their visitation list, unless they request a 5-minute collect call by speaker phone, available once every 90 days.

Inmates should be permitted to call friends and family overseas by using the new TDCJ inmate phone system

I signed that a couple of weeks ago...fingers crossed I sooo want to be able to talk to K. He asked about that call every 90 days and the warden told him he wasnt allowed to do that and they didnt do it anymore.

Only 74 signatures so far? wow - I am surprised! I thought the petition would have reached a thousand within days. I signed it the first time it was mentioned on here, though as Sunray says, calls can be made International at the discretion of the Warden - 5 minutes every 3 months is not a lot at all and it appears from Fee's post that not all Wardens give this permission.

Nope CP they dont...the warden told him that they didnt allow that anymore..he asked a while ago but he is going to ask again because I told him about the is it !-60? (cant remember sorry) he said he had done that already but will ask again see what the warden says. Not gonna hold my breath though.

Yes, he has to fill in an I-60 that's an eye *lol* not a one, alphabet, not number) and that is submitted to the Warden and they do do that in every Texas prison, that is my understanding (though maybe I am wrong if his Warden doesn't allow it) . Hope he gets it sorted for you.

Fee - they DO allow it but it is very difficult to get the staff to bother to get the inmate and take them to an office and then wait with them while they make the call and then take them back to their cell. Send an email to the Ombudsman and ask them. Once you get their answer, send it to the Regional Director's office for your guy's unit and tell them that his Warden is ignoring what the Ombudsman says.
