Fee! How far are you from Glasgow? I'm watching the women's olympic soccer (football) games, and I see a lot of empty seats. I think that if I lived there, I would be watching the games every day. How much does it cost, anyway?

I'm not Fee so I hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread...
I work in central London by the countdown clock. I have tried to get tickets to the events in London but everything I applied for was apparently sold out. Then suddenly tickets are on sale. I tried to get some tickets that way but no joy. My boss has tickets for the Opening Ceremony but they have not been delivered yet. He's thinking they won't arrive in time.
I'll be glad when the whole fiasco is over. It's already a nightmare commuting into London and back again every day.

Sorry Xray, highjack no2. I live and work in London, everyone i know applied for tickets and no-one got any! Iknow we should be proud etc to have the games in our country, but as Feb said, travelling is a nightmare, by road or tube!
I'm only watching the opening ceremony in the hope that Danny Boyle has Renton running round the track lol.
Rivers know this: There is no hurry. We shall get there someday.
You're not hijacking, februarymoon. I'm interested in anything from anyone with first hand information. The soccer games that I'm watching are being played in Glasgow, Scotland, where fee is from. I can imagine that things are pretty hectic in downtown London, but maybe it isn't so bad further out of town.
I hope that your boss gets his tickets, and I hope that you are able to attend some events. It would be a shame to be so close and to be denied that opportunity.
I would love to be there, myself. My grand daughter (age 11) plays soccer and wants to be a professional player some day. I will encourage her all that I can. The opportunities, for female athletes is so much greater than it was when I was a kid (Of course I'm a guy and I was so non-athletic that they wouldn't even let me play on the girls teams. LOL)

On Saturday and Sunday we have the pleasure of the road cycling coming through our town. I will be watching and cheering on Team GB!

Im about an hour and a half by car away from Glasgow maybe longer. I saw on the news tonight that they were actually worried about there being more security than fans there. They had a scheme going giving away free tickets thats probably why there were still a lot of empty seats as well not everyone would want to go to watch womens football (soccer).
Football is a big thing here and womens really doesnt cut it the same as mens.
Im not even sure how much it would cost either Xray.
I bet its hectic down there in London. I wouldnt like that at all.
Treat others as you would like to be treated
I must admit im glad i left London in time for the Olympics i feel for those that have to battle the chaos that will be.
hmmm....
My parents and I have tickets for a few of the events down in London. We will be going to two archery sessions and a preliminary basketball session (2 matches - one including the USA team). I can't wait! :-) I'm sure London will be packed and hectic and I feel very sorry for everyone who lives there and is trying to get on with their lives, but I'm really looking forward to going as a tourist and having a good time!
It was stupendously expensive, even though all of our tickets are in the cheapest two price bands, as accommodation and stuff is pricey. My parents are paying for most of it though.... There are still a few tickets available, or at least there were yesterday, but they're mainly the expensive ones and only in a few sports :-(
Im bored with it already.. im also glad we have more security than fans, hopefully everything will go ahead peacefully..

That is a sad commentary, but I know that it's true. Having had two daughters, who were athletes, and now granddaughters, I have a whole different attitude than the rest of the world.
Our high school, girl's soccer team won the state championship, last year, and came in second, this year. So, I am very excited about the prospects. I am hoping that they are building a tradition that will extend until the time that my granddaughter is up there. Our high school girls are also very good in basketball and volleyball. The world is changing. When I was in school, all girls could do was be cheerleaders.
