My best friend was killed by a drunk driver & another victim perished (his 3rd poss 4th DUI)-he was driving while barred, and recently I was made aware that he may have a facebook page. I find this utterly appalling because FB is an open forum and I defintely do not feel that this person-serving 25 yrs-should be able to have access to this site. I am not against private e-mailing through yahoo, etc. but on a FACEBOOK?!?? really disgusted that this person, who has 29 charges to his name, is able to have a FB page soupting about how manly he is. He killed 2 people because of his OWN choies he made. I am not against the prison system.I had 2 of my family members in boot camp & a federal prison so I do understand how it feels to have someone incarcerated. But my family members were in for non-violent crimes. When 1 of my family members was at the boot camp, they allowed the 'lifers' to get pizza ordered in & such. Completely not what I would feel the 'pulse' of American citizens would want. Totally disappointed in some of the systems' and how they allow some of these 'less than desirable' inmates to get priveleges that inmates who only have 6 mths to serve do not get. makes me completely sick!

He probably did not make the page himself a lot of guys on FB have people on the outside maintaining there page for them

Not to mention I don't think DWI/DUI qualifies as a violent crime. A dumb one, but not violent, but maybe I'm wrong.

I totally understand how you feel. I am very sorry that happened to your best friend. The destruction and sadness left behind by drunks behind a wheel is beyond comprehension when innocent people are killed or seriously injured. NO I dont think it is a violent crime??? but nevertheless some innocent person going about thier buisness died. I cannot stand people who do not adhere to the rules of the road and there are plenty whereever you go in the world. It can be bad enough out there without adding to the risk. Wher I live here you get youths riding motorcycles on the road, no helmets, no licence, no insurance and often the bike has been stolen. They randomly ride onto the road and then randomly go up on the pavement, zigzagging all over the place. I can see they will lose control. Its not fair on other road users and people and children walking around, chances are its one of the innocents that could end up injured. A while back one went right into a three year old. Luckily she was ok. Yes it makes me sick too!!!!

you must know that alcoholism is considered a disease in the psychology bible named the DSM IV, right?

i got one DUI. it was a doozy. i was a sick, sick, person. by that time i had no CHOICE-i HAD to use or i went thru DTs.

i set out to take my son to the ER.....didn't yield-and hit an escalade in my husbands brand spanking new volvo. thank god the airbags didn't deploy or my son would have probably broken his neck. he's definitely old enough to ride upfront but he is thin. anyway-it was hit and run ( i was sooooo terrified) and i had my kid in the car!!!!! mother of the year, right? i didn't get my kids taken away but i had to face other charges. i did my time, joined AA, and now have been sober 2 years.

i don't think its a violent crime-but i was definitely a menace to society, a mother who put her child in danger is a sick, sick, woman.

i never got pizza while locked up-i wouldn't have been able to stomach it anyway.......and my husband maintained my facebook page. so you see some people don't get those things.

you know? a lot of people shouldn't be on the road but are-not just drunk drivers. the little old lady who can't see over the dashboard, the diabetic who is hitting an insulin low and is very shaky to drive, people who have to take pain meds for chronic illness.....things like that. i don't see THEM as perpetuators of violence-but they often kill people, too.

i am not saying that drunk driving is OK. alcoholism is a disease one can't control at the bitter, bitter end. thank God a judge ordered me into a program-i got more out of it than being in city lock up.....but these people who have 3 and 4 separate offenses for DUI should get some time. thats just my opinion-and i only got pinched once.....and thru the grace of God, a good program and a sponsor i never have to be in that position again.

JMHO-if you KILL someone DUI you should get vehicular manslaughter at the very least. no pizza.

I just skimmed the replies. Earlier I ran across an article and read it. Apparently inmate owned facebook pages are shut down like a page with nudey pictures.

The reason why is disturbing. This guy raped a child and he went away. She had since turned 17 and he saw how she wore her hair and sent stuff to her/her parents. Really its horrible and its very wrong but facebook was how she saw it. Facebook is becoming more of an issue these days.

It makes me actually happy that the lifer's can get to order pizza sometimes. Wished all prison had that! You might think everyone got life deserves that. But I dont and is one reason why I have commit myself to write them, if it is life or DR dont matter to me.

have to reply myself, i dont think it is ok to kill or drive drunk and etc, but a life or DP is cruel, what about a 2nd chance?

Hi Glitterchick, thanks for your story there. Im glad you overcame your problems. Well done, truley. Yes it all goes to show we are only flippen human beings. We ALL do really silly things at some point.

If you are locked up, should you get pizza??? I dont really care. I care about the fact that people show remorse for the destruction they have left behind and learn from their mistakes, otherwise whats the point???

Thanks for sharing GlitterChick, but even that, it's not like you wrecked on your way from one bar to the other. If you're drunk most of the time and an ACTUAL emergency comes up I can see how your thinking can get cloudy. Way to go on your success.
