    Post Talking to your children.

Do any of you talk to your kids about having a pen pal in prison, or do you think it's not appropriate? My son is 11, and I have told him all about having one, and he thinks it's a really cool thing to do. He is a very sensitive kid, and one of the first things he said to me was, "I would be really sad in prison, I wish someone would write to me." What are your thoughts about this?

My son's were both young men when I started my PP journey so I included them in everything, and now I am marrying my fiance they both are happy and sad that he is going to be away from us for some years, but they did not have any undue concerns in fact if mail comes when I am at the office I get a txt from the oldest son saying you have mail from "Pa" lol but that is just a bit of fun between us

Cute stories, I don't see why you shouldn't tell you kids - if you knew your pen pal well and have a good friendship that is.

I once read a story about a woman who made her kids call her pen pal 'Daddy' and all kinds of sh!t, that was messed up!

My kids know about my pp's - and my youngest (who's now 11) has written letters to my main pp and he's replied and sent stuff through to him too. I think it's best to share this sort of thing with my kids...they hear the bad and sad stuff that my pp's have endured whilst locked up, and I'm hoping it scares them into keeping their noses clean!!
