Hi, as some of you know I am off to Illinois in September to meet my PP for the first time. I am going to need to buy a mobile phone over there so I can contact my PP's family whilst out there. I was just wondering which mobile phone company is best to go with. I want to get PAYG with credit if possible. Is Walmart a good place to buy from?

Any advice would be welcome?

Nad, I've bought myself a phone from Walmart for $20. You put a minimum of $15 credit on there and it lasts you a month. I would say that's the best way to go..you need a credit card though, that's how you put the $$$ on there. The phones are nothing flash, but all you're wanting to do is call! It's really simple and easy

Thanks Xtina, can you not buy the cards to top up with? I don't really want to be using my credit card again as its been used to the hilt to book this trip.

I have a couple of cell phones the cheap one is a trac phone you can buy it at wal mart and fill it up with cards if you buy a certain phone it will double you minutes every time you add to it

Nad, I'm not sure about the top up cards, possibly?? It will be just one transaction of $15 for you, so not too much I would imagine. If you buy the phone in cash, or whatever, then use the card for the credit it wouldnt be too bad? Just don't use it excessively as to where the money you have on there runs out and you have to top it up!

I just thought some of these payg phone already come with credit or maybe this is a UK thing? I won't be calling much as I can use the hotels to call local numbers for free. My chaps mum wants me to call so she know's I'm safe plus I have to call his family to arrange meet ups etc. So I won't need a lot of credit, just enough for ten days.....And thanks me dear......

Yeah, it seems the phone I bought makes you put a minimum of $15 on there. I really don't know about the card payg thing, I'm Australian, so I don't know how these American's do things lol, I'm still learning! But that's what I did, and it works well GOOOOOOD LUUUUUUCK
