  1. Your avatar reminds me of my childhood.

    *wistful face*

You have done all you can for now, so that is a good thing.

As a cookery teacher who has worked out in the community, shame they live on such fatty foods all the time, it dampens the mood and you do not get all the nutrients.... But of course, any food is better than none at all. People who live that way of course do not have the means to cook a healthy meal.

Yes I'm sure you will get a message should it need be. x

Silas, I am pleased you found her. Shame she is living on the street though. Sad that so many do, especially with a crippling mental health disorder. Continually in my prayers. Also that she get the right medication and actually takes them.

medicaition -I have experience of that myself. Not a good place to be.

    Hi Silas.
    Peace.
Well all I can say if I were at mass and father spoke about Writeaprisoner, actually, not even mass I would probably faint. Yes very amazing to say the least. I almost feel like this website and forum is a tiny part of a secret island. Obviously it isnt and just goes to show how positive and well known it may well be.

About Silas Sydenham

Basic Information

About Silas Sydenham
About me:
Pedantic. Tactless fool. All too prone to inappropriate self disclosure. Australian living in Sydney, in my sixtieth year of life, gay, single, Catholic/Gnostic/Syncretist. (In that order)
Always trying to manage time, but rarely succeeding. I attend Mass every day. I am flirtacious. I survive reasonably well with insufficient paid employment. Lifetime radical and activist.
Country/location:
A crummy but exciting multicultural inner neighbourhood of Sydney, Australia.
Hobbies:
Gardening, reading, music, making a nuisance of myself to authority, pretending to be deaf in music shops, travelling around on public transport on my free pensioner's ticket, arranging the flowers in Church (sometimes re-arranging someone else's 'do'). Drinking. People-watching.
Occupation:
Freelance welfare worker for faith-based organisations, part-time activist for political prisoners and interned refugees. Day-job: Bookseller.
Gender:
Male
Favorite websites:
Cannot give a meaningful answer. I use Writeaprisoner more than any other. But then I use the 412 bus a lot, too. That doen't mean that Campsie to Circular Quay is my favourite journey.
Last book read:
I read and re-read a lot, refer to my albums for an inkling. My last new-read is Michael PatrickMacDonald's "All Souls"
Movies:
"Baghdad Cafe" (for CCH Pounder),
"Apartment Zero" (everyone's hidden agenda gets them go buggerup in the end),
"Fire Over England" (patriotism trancends nationalism),
"Young America" (Jane Withers at her best).
"Matewan" (even the humble need to struggle)
"Maurice" (1987) (One of Merchant-Ivory's gems. I read the book as a teenager, so I was prepared for it, but even so, I had to watch it in installments. The subject matter hits close to my bones. And at 2hours20minutes, it is quite long. The young Hugh Grant is a delight to behold!)
But, above all:
"Now Voyager" (Bette Davis in her best role, and all about living life with nobility and steadfastness.)
Music:
kd lang, Cowboy Junkies, Patsy Kline, Mary Schneider, Opera (but NOT Wagner), Dwight Yoakam, Winifred Atwell, almost anything played on a pipe organ, Welsh hymn-tunes, Scottish accordion. I have recently developed an extreme dislike for the boy-band "One Direction", and distaste for Justin Bieber.
Marital status:
Single, falling in love most of the time.
Heroes:
Gladys Aylward, my Parish Priests, Desmond Tutu. Aung San Suu Khi. See my albums for others.

Speechless

I Cannot Tell

I cannot tell why He whom angels worship
Should set His love upon the sons of men
Or why, as shepherd, He should seek the wanderers
To bring them back, they know not how or when
But this I know, that He was born of Mary
When Bethlehem's manger was His only home
And that He lived at Nazareth and laboured
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world is come.

I cannot tell how

1 Corinthians 13

Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Love, the More Excellent Way

13 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a ringing brass gong or a clashing cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and I know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I parcel out all

Saint Martin's day is ANZAC day.

by Silas Sydenham on 04-24-2012 at 09:56 PM

The ANZAC Memorial
This tribute to the memory of the ANZACS by M. Kemal Atatürk was written in 1934.
He was the founder of the Turkish Republic in 1923.

THE ANZAC MEMORIAL
Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives...
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie

ANZAC day

by Silas Sydenham on 04-24-2012 at 08:04 PM

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them.

Lest we forget.
