    Default Mail Rules?

I am new here and have a pp in Angola. Does anyone know the rules about mail there? What I can send, what I can't send?

You can send CD's, Books and Photo's to Angola, I have 2 PP's there and have at some point sent all of what I just mentioned

Thank you! How would you go about sending a book or cd? His b-day is coming up and I wanted to send him something.

You have to use an outside vendor like Amazon who I use or Barnes and Noble

You should always check with the inmate himself before you send anything. Though there are consistent rules that supposedly apply to all the prisons in Louisiana, there are variations in the way the rules are interpreted and enforced. For instance, I spent almost seven years at Wade Correctional Center, where the first woman warden of any Louisiana prison in history took over. She told the mail room to interpret the rules banning pornography to deny any books or magazines that showed any amount of nudity whatsoever, a definition that for them included women in bathing suits, underwear, or tight or revealing clothing. This meant that for a long time we couldn't even get People or Sports Illustrated magazine. And Maxim or Rolling Stone? Forget it. The joke was that the warden would deny any magazine that had a picture in it of a woman who was better looking than she was. Which was, of course, just about every magazine that came in.

Some years later I had the opportunity to tell some former inmates from Angola, Hunt, and other La. prisons about this. To a man they all thought it was insane, which of course it was. They said that they were able to get anything short of outright porn, and that occasionally the mailroom personnel would slip and even let that through.

I knew another inmate that had someone send him the Harry Potter books. They were denied by the prison because they were about "witchcraft". I am not making this up.

Some La. facilities are also fanatic about denying any book or magazine depicting a subject such as guns or martial arts. Again, the rule is that you should always ask the inmate him/her self about this. The inmate will know, or can talk to other inmates and find out. That way you won't waste your money sending something that will be returned to the seller.

Hi everyone!! just wanted to share this little bit of info with all you lovely ladies who write anyone at Louisiana..please do not bother sending anything to your wonderful pps via amazon.com??? According to my pp..they have decided to go 'green'..which means they are no longer sending any sales receipts with their orders, which means as you all already know..that no items will ever be accepted by the DOC with no receipt??? I've checked with Barnes & Noble..who are approved by Prisons, and they are still good with enclosing these sales receipts! If anyone knows of any other approved vendors for LSP..would appreciate knowing..thanks in advance!

first i hear about that. actually spoke with my friend there about 10 minutes ago and he said amazon.com is okay to send from (i was telling him about a book i want him to read). i don't ever recall them needing the receipt. i was always told the shipping label was enough to prove it came from amazon. i know nothing can be sent there from a 3rd party vendor, just strictly amazon.

but, anyhow, you can do barnes and noble and books a million as well. i sure hope there's a mistake somewhere because i literally just finished the order for his book.

Hi there! ooh..i am a little confused here??I was just sharing what my pp told me in his letter as i have always used amazon.com in the past? I don't know if different rules apply to different prisons..but i have had many issues with sales receipts/invoices not being included with delivery in the past & none of my orders to him were accepted by LSP & were returned back to AMAZON.COM.. and to make matters worse my pp always had to fork out & pay for the items to be returned..crazy!!! I used amazon just 2 months ago to order him a book..it was refused by the prison..as no sales receipt attached?? So when i got the news from my pp..i double checked with amazon..and they confirmed it to me in writing! please feel free to contact them yourself & check..it may just be an issue with DR at angola..i've just be advised not to use them again. hope you find the answers you need..God bless..xx
