    Like I mentioned before:

    Amnesty International can be helpful

    And prison chaplains.

It takes a bit of work.

One U.S. penpal site, PrisonPenPals.com, has links on its site for the following: African, Australian, Belgium/Holland, Canada, Egyptian, Irish and United Kingdom.

I take it from this you read the Daily Mail & have no experience of UK legal services? You cant write them because its not allowed for ''fun'' only compassionate, education & reintegration. Inmates have to have approved address contacts at most prisons. So your ''rights'' issues are flawed right away? What about books for jails, an issue allowed in US prisons but not in UK prisons a issue thats been in media recently? Education is also dire in UK prisons. On most things UK prisons & US are very similar, in some cases US prisons are better. I'd look at drug rehab programs for that, UK is **** for rehab.
Sentences are harsh in the USA but for stuff like drugs n petty theft there the same, violence there similar but attitudes are different & prisons in UK more chilled out. I sugest you read up more on 3 strike rules, ido's & recalls. Why are UK prisons overflowing if sentences are to light?
