Thank God for DNA testing! It seems that we read way too many stories like this one. And, how does society pay a man back for a ruined life? It sure doesn't seem fair. I didn't read the whole story. So, perhaps I missed something. But it always bugs me when I read something like this that perhaps the prosecuter, or investigators didn't tell the whole story . . that they knew that they had an innocent man, but they convicted him anyway. Perhpas to salve their own conscience, or to quiet a demanding public. It is too bad that they are offered protection for any wrong doing. A lack of accountability, on the part of the investigators and prosecuters certainly compounds the problem and may be a large part of our national prison load. Just my 2 cents.

Oh! And there were two men exonerated in Texas yesterday because of DNA as well!

The semen found on the victim did not match Dewey at the time of his conviction, but no other suspect was ever arrested for the crimes.

For the life of me, where do they find juror's that would CONVICT a man in the first place, when the semen did not match his? Reasonable doubt???? Hello.....i want to say anyone home...... Honestly it scares me to know as much as i do about the "justice" system.

I always thought it was a bad idea to be tried by a jury of your peers, who are picked at random from the voters list. There should be some kind of standard of education that you must have, that allows you to understand certain scientific concepts like DNA. Perhaps this is a bit big-brothery, but maybe even filter out those that have had mental issues in the past. Also, a trial is mostly theatrics about who can spin the most convincing story, so I guess some people just get swayed by them.

I think a jury of your peers should decide your fate, as long as they're actually your peers. Meaning, same age, social status, etc. If you need a certain education to be able to perform this civic duty then what's the point of even having a jury? Let the experts convict you or decide your innocence.

The problem is that we live in the "CSI" world. Everyone wants scientific proof for everything. They want DNA. While a lot of innocent people can be freed by DNA, a lot of guilty people walk because of the lack of it.
