The curmudgeonly old bugger has gone home. Even walked to his car, and waved to the crowd.

A little off topic: but hope Margaret Thatcher will be
gone before the end of 2011 or maybe 2012.

Remember how many working class people she put
out of work in the 1980s.

The man certainly is old, but he is neither bigot nor evil.

Remember that he worked for his living, when all the laws of every European country denied him even a surname. Even now, his heirs are Windsor, rather than Mountbatten. As for the working classes, imagine the Commonwealth without the Monarchy - we would be like the USA or the Russian Federation: up schytt creek in a barbwire canoe without a paddle.

It's a little bit funny you brought up the British name "Mountbatten"
because last year when Prince William and Kate were here in Canada
in a boat, made me think how what happened to Prince Charles Uncle
    Lord Mountbatten....Boom (very sad)

    Way back when.

Mountbatten is not British. Simply the anglicised version of the German/Danish "Battenborg".
Surnames get cleaned up from time to time.
My family name Sydenham was Zuckermann before WWI.
My Mother's family name Cowley was MacAulay before the Jacobite Rebellion.

It is good to remember things from "Way back when".

(Lord Louis was actually Prince Charles' Great-Uncle on both sides.)

Since you brought it up the British Royal Family name
before WW1 was Saxe-Coburg,(a German name) but changed
    it to Windsor.

Only because you are talking about anglicised names.

Exactly the point I was making.

And, to be accurate, it was Schelswig-Holstein-Saxe-Coburg-Wurrteborg-Gotha. Shortened to Saxe-Coburg for the brief time it was used in Britain.
Any member of that family would be horrified for it to be thought of as a German name. Most of them spoke German or Danish, but their nationality was Coburg.
