Problem is Karleep, the guidelines state exactly that, "nothing" to follow as far as prison goes and ac/used or not. Yet jails have to have ac, they are only contained not found guilty by a court yet.
So, bottom line no ac in prison in TX, a few law suites over this have failed. No one is entitled to ac inmate or not. Fans yes.

Well I can see why lawsuits would fail, I mean it's prison. As for jail.... jails are often occupied by people who are awaiting conviction or are on lesser charges so perhaps they have to be more careful in that sense or the laws/ guidelines are different. Inmates are entitled to very little and that is one of the main points of prison, especially in Texas where they go out of their way to make prison a place inmates won't want to come back to
Just to make things clear here. There is no doubt that it is hotter than hell in most units in the TDCJ. We ALL know that, and no one has denied the fact. And we all feel for the inmates there, and they all deserve to have a fan to cool them down. Not that it is helping much - as someone said earlier, it's just to blow the hot air around.
What has been discussed here now is the fact whether Polunsky has A/C or not. We called Polunsky to find out the correct answer to this, and they do have A/C. I feel this pretty much has cleared it up for me and I feel I'm done beating this dead horse. By all means, Mount and Peanut. Go on saying that they don't. Frankly, I don't care what you say on this topic after this, and take my leave from this thread.
Have a lovely weekend y'all!

Yea I say my piece then let them fight it the death gladiator style lol
Perhaps some people just like to discuss things to a finer detail than others. I'd rather see people contributing to the discussion in whatever way, rather than just chipping in with irrelevant comments, but that's just my feelings on it. We are not all the same, and we are not all nice all the time. I get really tired of the "cant we all just get along" comments to be honest; the only thing we all have in common is an involvement in some way with inmates. Beyond that, we all bring so much diversity to WAP that of course we are not just going to get along all the time or agree with each other or be nice. Humans don't do that.

I may be wrong here but it does not bother me in the least they don't have ac. As a nurse we are more concerned with children and elderly suffering from heat stroke. Also those with serious ailments. Heat stroke actually takes time to occur when a person is healthy. The physical signs may seem like they occur rapidly but unseen signs to those without a trained eye are already occurring. That being said you don't need ac to beat heat stroke. You have to drink plenty of fluids if you sweat alot alternate with a little gatorade to help replace those vital nutrients being lost, but always make water your go to when it's hot. Someone said wrap a cold towel around the neck, good idea this can help maintain a cooler body temperature. Sleep in your birthday suit or for them boxers. Always listen to your body. If it says drink, drink. If it says sit, sit. And I just want to inform people that sick inmates are usually housed in the infirmary where there is air. And another thing please as sun rays wrench pointed out don't call people with mental illness crazy, that really gets my panties in a bunch.
Heres some food for thought maybe the infirmary and the mental health floors have air because they understand these people are in need of it. Maybe general population not so much because they trust these individuals have the common sense to apply techniques to keep themselves cool. Like it was said before there are more impotant things to worry about in prison than ac. Now how about conjugal visits I mean truthfully I would just die without that. ;-)
You would think native Texans would eventually get used to the heat. We really don't, there's no way to ever get used to 100+ temperatures. However, mid 90's isn't really hot to me personally. The inside of a metal building is much hotter than 100 degrees, take my word for it. I remember many days trying to sleep, and I couldn't because the sweat was rolling down my back constantly. Everyone in prison sleeps in their boxers, I wouldn't advise the "birthday suit" idea though. There are also plenty of elderly gentlemen in TDC units. They sweat with the rest of us. They also don't give you any kind of cup to hold water when your first get to prison. You have to wait about three weeks for any commissary money to clear. However, someone showed me how to make a cup out of an empty can using the bottom of a table. Before that I could only drink what I could hold in my hand. TDC doesn't take any of this in to consideration in the summer months. I was lucky, I was never sick during my time in prison. There are plenty of guys that don't get the medical attention they need. I've seen people die, it does happen.
