That is excessive, to put it mildly! Under those rules I would've been in and out of court as a kid.

Yeah, that kinda comes under the legal reasons I mentioned above, but there is usually an end date or a way of appealing or getting the courts to reconsider.

I've had heat stroke, and it's not nice. I had it as a teenager after spending the whole day outside in full sun (in the UK, it did used to happen back in the day!) with very little to drink. I spent the following 4 days in bed in a darkened room on a liquid diet. I can say if I did the same thing now, I would probably die too because I have medical conditions that would be seriously aggravated by those kinds of conditions. Hubby worries more about me here when we get a bit of sun than I do about him over there.

I think someone already said this, but many inmates still behave like teenagers and think they are invincible.

That is hot hot hot! My part of Canada hasn't seen that heat in years and years. Survival of the fittest and richest in that heat eh?
Canada is like your attic, you forget that it's up there, but when you go, it's like "Oh man, look at all this great stuff!"

Yeah I just think precautions should be taken when dealing with these kinds of conditions in prison. There are also medications which prevent a person from naturally cooling themselves. So maybe, since I've seen that at least parts of most prisons are air conditioned, they should transfer those with medical needs to the AC'd units. It's not good for anyone if these people die.

Not everyone realizes when they are getting heat stroke and it can come over you pretty fast.

I've had heat stroke and it just hit me out of nowhere. It did teach me to make sure I'm drinking plenty of water after that. I will say that after today in 108 degrees temperatures in addition to the humidity, I wouldn't wish this on anybody without A/C. Yes, inmates have a lot more pressing issues they have to deal with but it would be nice if they could do it in reasonably comfortable temperatures. I wouldn't choose A/C in a prison over a school or nursing home, but I wish they could all have A/C.

Just received a copy of the May issue of The Echo (TDCJ's inmate newspaper) and there are at least 3 separate sections in it about how to recognise heat-related illness, what to do, how to combat them etc.

Hubby sent me one. The inmates have to pay $12 a year for a subscription.
