Hi, is it okay for me to send things to my pen pal regarding other people who are incarcerated? It's regarding a girl who is fighting to get the DNA tested to prove her innocence. Since he is interested in this type of thing as it relates to his case I thought I'd send him the article. I wanted to check first though. I don't want to send something that will get me in trouble.

I know that in Federal you can't unless you change the name to John/Jane Doe if it's about another Federal prisoner.

Ah, I guess I won't send it just to be on the safe side. Maybe I'll just write and tell him about it then.

Normally as been said already they do not like info about other prisoners circulating, so unless you take out the identifying names it may not pass the scrutiny of the mail room. If you know the details of the case, you could find a case number send that to him and he could check it out in the law library, but many times if it is in direct relation to their own case they are up with the latest developments, well from all i understand for most.

i've done it before and never had a problem. the way it was told to me is that they're allowed to get newspapers so they won't deny a printed news article.

let's just put it this way: i sent an article once, no names crossed off and the person mentioned in the article lives below and to the right of the person i sent it to.

of course i didn't know that at the time.

I do not doubt what Moxie has shared, but for me i would rather take the precaution and have a name blacked out and send it than have the hassle of it being kicked back.
