My pp talks about playing "The Game", and about "Booty Bandits", but he doesn't wanna tell me what they really are. He said that it's in every prison in America, that even the "hardest prisons" have "The Game". So what are they really about?!!

There's oceans in between us, but that's not very far...
This somewhat explains the booty bandit thing (very verrrrrrrry closely related topic) ... If you watch this you will get a general idea of what your pp meant
I'm fairly certain what he means by the game, (QB took care of the booty so well...just means guys that are out for other guys' arses if you know what I mean)....
Game: hustle, make money how you can make it, even if that means extortion, illegal activity. If you've read my posts on this forum over the years I've used the phrase to describe certain people that you could write to that live "on the game" and look at perspective outside pen pals as persons to fleece for money, items, sex, etc. A hustler's life, street life brought into prison and changed by prison into it's own brand of game.
For some people, sadly, it is all they've ever known. If you were born with parents that are in gangs, grown up surrouded by it, and go to prison at a young age, you didn't get to see a whole lot that wasn't game.

When you watch something like this it brings you very quickly back to what reality these inmates deal with on a daily basis. Even if you aren't involved in either of these "games" I'm sure that this has got to affect all inmates for a long time to come.
I had the privilege (and yes, I see it as that) of watching my friend go from a mentality of complete distrust for anyone and a belief that some aspects of the game were all there was to reality, to allowing a much different mental state and belief system begin to grow in him. I believe that to be any sort of success in life, you need to make those changes even if that was all you ever knew. By success I mean long term happiness not built on quicksand, not pie in the sky success story. Not being on the fast track back to prison could be a kind of success story.
I swear that when I am a very old woman, reviewing my life, being present in his life to have seen that change in him will feature large in my happiness. (Unless he does something bad to me to ruin it, LOL!!!) Nah, worst he'll do is ruin himself, not me. Hope he doesn't.
Once you wake up and stop playing that game it leaves a whole lot of empty space to fill with the better part of your nature... I have a lot of compassion for that.

So, is this actually pretty common even among people with straight orientation? I don't know how else to word that more nicely...
