    Default questions about parole

hiya, just a few questions about parole.

my guy comes up for parole in september, now i don't think he's gonna get it, i reallly don't but there's no harm in having a bit of hope is there.

when i first met him he had an earliest release of 2014 (i think), then it was 2017 and now on tdcj it seems to say 2019?! this is why i don't believe he will get parole whatsoever and that saddens me

anyway, what happens.. do they literally not hear anything until the day they're due to come up. i suppose they don't get released for ages either, i am totally clueless, all i know is that they can't leave the country on parole and sometimes not even state. are they on parole until their maximum sentance ends so in his case 2019? also, what determines if they get parole.. not getting into trouble i assume but what else??

i wish i had a crystal ball so i could know whether he would get it. it would help me know whether i can make a commitment to him.

    thanks for your help!

    Hey,

My guy is due for another interview too. What he told me when he is due to go for his parole interview he gets a "lay in" and has to go. He then has to wait for his answer and last time it was close to 7 months if I recall it. They dont get released straight away either he told me how it works but it was all complicated. He was thinking he may have to take a changes class but we will see.
He was given a 1 year set off last time and will be due again soon for another interview.
Good luck to your guy hope he is lucky.

really ahhh man that is a long time. to be honest i don't think he stands a chance, he's been in prison before as well and got released and ended up back again. but is the fact he actually has been given a date a good thing? would he not even get a date if he really stood no chance of parole?

so they actually get interviewed do they, wow what pressure. what kinda questions do they ask! it's so hard having to wait for a letter to find out further information. i really hope he is lucky, not for me but for him and his daughter. he is missing watching his little girl grow up

Hii I think it might be different from state to state, even from prison to prison. My guy is up for parole june 22nd 2017 and he will get told when the interview is and then he has to stand in front of the parole board. He took some class when he first got incarcerated to be able to apply for parole before time. I sure dont hope that he will have to wait for another year with parole. He has never been to prison before and nor do I hope that he will ever go back. Are moving me and son from Denmark in 10 days just to close to him. I know that u can write the parole board with reasons for letting him out . f.ex that he has a daughter to get out to or a wife that is waiting or some positive aspects for why they should let him out now

He will have a date when he is eligible for parole, dependent on his sentence and when he committed his crime. Whether he gets parole is a separate matter. All TDCJ inmates have a 50/50 chance once their eligibility date rolls by. They don't all get interviewed, and the parole officer who interviews them has no part in the overall decision, that is down to the Board members. You need all of the 3 or 4 members to vote yes in order to be paroled.

There is no harm in putting together a parole packet, but there is no garuantee that the Board members will look at it. Hiring a parole lawyer is a waste of money as far as I can see, they also have no influence and often just put a small parole packet together - which the family could have done themselves for free.
