I have 1 PP so far. We have about 3 to 4 letters in circulation. The turnaround time just takes too damn long. I spend about average 2 hours on each letter. We also email every other day or so, and email is much quicker for me and especially for him as it cost him money to email. It's great though to have email access when you need to get a quick note across. But I also really like receiving hand written letters.

There was a time when I was writing K a full letter per day, only because I had nothing better to do. Then when he told me that he has a hard time keeping up, letters tended to slow down a little... Mostly because I was running out of things to write about... The time between letters really depends on the mail room at the prison because they can either be on crack and processing letters like no one's business or they can be slower than turtles with molasses on their feet. But it also depends on if there is disciplinary action in play, inmates don't get their mail if they are in the hole...

I have 13 PPs as of this week, & I'm waiting on several others. I'm not on JPay or Corrlinks but I anticipate being on Corrlinks shortly because I now have several federal PPs... I just write letters at the moment, I have my main PP on DR in Texas & the other 12 are all general population guys. My main PP, we write at least 5-6 times a month and our letters are usually 15-20 pages long. We used to only do 1 at a time in circulation but now there's 3 or 4 going so that helps. I just got a mountain from him, 2 really long letters all at once which I'm still working on. I have yet to exceed 20 pages with my letters but I'm sure that day is coming! The rest of my GP guys, they write anywhere from 1-12 pages, I have 1 whose letters are easy to respond to because he only writes 1 page front and back and doesn't ask alot of questions. I find the factors that determine how much I write are just how much I have to say at that time, and how much questions they ask. Lots of questions and different topics in their letters increase my responses exponentially, the less they give of those, the harder it makes it for me to write alot in response. Most of my guys letters take me at least 2 hrs to do, some up to 4 or 5 hrs depending on who & how long it is. One time, a letter to my main PP took me like 6 and a half hours to do, but usually I'd say between 2-3 hrs but I write longer letters generally too so there's that.

Well, I don't know if it's true that they don't get mail if they are in the hole. My friend in New York got his.

I can alway's come up with something to write about even if it stupid stuff that happened to me during the day. If they had been a good friend for a long time I'd have tons of things to talk about. I guess if you are writing just because you have nothing better to do then yeah, it's probably best you don't force it. I'm sure they can tell.

Not always true my cousin got mail in the hole it just took a lot longer. He also wrote me tons because he had nothing better to do. I don't want any pp's reading this and thinking because they are in the hole not to write. Actually I would write more because they need the letters more when they are in the hole-usually they are locked down 23 hrs a day and are really depressed!

I write before I go to sleep it helps me relax. I usually write each at least a letter a week but it depends. Right now I have 4 and waiting to see if I have 5 but one likes to get Jpays and one is on Corrlinks so typing is a lot faster. I hand write the others so they take longer.

I normally write back when I get a letter. My pen pal and I in Texas write about 4-5 week and I send him a JPay every day. My other two I write when I get their letter usually on the same day or the day after. I like to get them in the mail pretty quickly.

Sadly, my pen pal in Washington and I are no longer writing. He kept saying to me that he wouldn't just tell me about his crime and that I would have to ask and to make damn sure I would want to know before I did. Since his crime on here is rape I told him that if it was for molestation of a child then I didn't want to know and I didn't think I could be the friend he needed and we should stop writing. He never came right out and said it but he said it was best if we stopped. He pushed it and mentioned his crime in almost every letter so I think he wanted to see if I could write to him knowing that. For me personally I couldn't.

I only have gotten 2 letters so far but I wrote both of them back with Jpay. I put about 4 hours in those letters, even tou I'm a fast typer. I think once we get going I will put in about an hour per day. Well if those 2 keep writing me back. I have a pretty busy schedule but would always make some time for a letter. I probably keep doing it towards the end of my day when it's all quiet in my house and (ahaem...not have anything better to do...just kidding) no but that's when I think I can write the best...someone in this thread said they have 13! Penpals...Gosh I think I could not do this. I'd probably get them a little confused sometimes...but really great if they can keep up with that.

Not sure who gave you this info Sarah, but it is incorrect......Those in the hole, still receive mail under the same regulations. It might take longer to process, but they get it.

I spend a bit of time reading my ppal's letters (3-4 times) then I write back and tell them as much as I can in 3-5 pages which i usually try and send out by the end of the same week. The hard part is that she is in Chowchilla and I live in Australia and her letters can take 4-8 weeks to get to me, its torture sometimes.
