That's weird vixxen! anyways, thanks.
In one of R.'s recent letters he told me how I've played a very active role in keeping him sane for these past few months (been some very tough months). How he really appreciates it and it's been very important to him. How I always managed to put a smile on his face even when feeling very very down. When I read that I was so happy. To know that I helped him through it means the world to meLittle does he know how much he has helped ME. I made sure to tell him that though.

What a great topic and I loved reading everyone's experiences! As gooddog said (CUTE dog btw, haha, sorry I am a huge dog lover) - not everyone is born writer and I am certainly not, when I started to write to my guys I've only written like 3 letters in my life and now I was being overwhelmed by such LONG letters about anything you can think of...I am not very open with people because I have trust-issues and stuff, so the beginnings were tough BUT now I really do enjoy writing. One of the guys, C, is very funny and very clever, he always talks about his journeys of life and talks about prison and his neighbor A LOT, haha, in last letter there was one sentence that stood up (I hope I won't get banned for that quote, haha), he said he and his friend "fought over a female who wasn't worth the p... she sits on". And also he decided to teach me how to appreciate myself, so that is funny. My favorite, R, was the same as me at the beginning, not very open, but recently we started to talk on the phone several times a week and he started to open up more and he often says how he appreciates me befriending him despite what he has done and where he is, we also have a lot in common so we spend ages talking about movies, philosophy and stuff like that. So that is pretty great.
I have sooo much to share (as none listens to me ANYMORE, haha) but I don't wanna bore you guys, but as queenbella said keep them coming I really enjoy it!

@TeriTrej: I am a writer and it comes naturally to me to communicate best through writing, but many, MANY people are not that way at all! There is a certain openness that can come in writing, I think it's a conduit to a person's inner thoughts and feelings, often times so yes... it can feel new to people who do not consider themselves to be natural writers, both in and out of prison or who do feel that "openness" in writing and it feels strange and foriegn.
I have to say that sometimes you can meet people in prison that are amazed they can be so open and share these parts of themselves because in there, that's NOT what you do!!! (at least that's what I am told.) So it's a big deal to be sharing that through letters...that openness and vulnerability. That's exactly what could get you in trouble in prison...openness and vulnerability. Yet... they share it with you! Special.
I think letters are awesome but some people just want to do phone or jpay (which is "sort of" a letter but not totally, in my mind anyhow...) I think some people are better at verbal communication than written one and I am the exact opposite of that, myself. It really is sweet when you can work that out with your pp's in whatever combination of communication that works best.

YAAAAY, finally. I will make this place my home! One of the most awesome letters I got was from R, who got his hands on some cinematography history book and he has rewritten 10 pages about Czech cinema history for me. That was way too cute. At the end of the letter he was like "My hand is killing me but I hope you learnt something new" that was pretty awesome.
@gooddog: I totally agree with you (and I can tell why are you a writerI was amazed at how the guys communicate. It's such a great experience and I truly would not believe if someone told me before how much it would enrich me. I agree with you on jpay, I use it when I want to get a note across quick or if I am REALLY busy, but the guys told me themselves they prefer handwritten letters and I do as well. Actually, since me and R started to talk on the phone we write more letters cos we only have 15 mins to talk each time, haha.
Vixxen, that's so sweet and wonderful of your pp to say! You are so blessed with one another!
I love the stuff I'm reading over here
Though I'm kinda new to this subject and haven't got many letters yet, I still have som cute things to share.
My PP sent me a photo of himself, and he wrote on the back: "Dear Moon - You're my smile, girl"
Cheeky, but I loved it
This is what one of my other PP's wrote in his first letter to me:
"At this new facility I'm basically in solitary confinement (a cell by myself). The one good thing about this place is I can open my cell window, which you can't do at any other prisons in this state. I currently have 8 little sparrow birds that live outside my window that I feed 3 times a day. They love wheat bread. They're starting to get fat though. One looks like he can't even flap his wings because he's so fat, haha! I bet Mickey or Pongo would love to get a hold of him. (smile)"
I had to laugh really hard when I read thisMickey and Pongo are my cats by the way
