I knew my now husband before his crime. He commited the crime in Sep 04 and was arrested the same night, so his sentence starts from the same date. He took a plea in Feb 05 for 40 years (must serve 20 before first chance at parole). We were married in Dec 06. Right now, he has at least 15 1/2 years to go.
We are both older, both have children (not with each other) who are grown. If I had not known him before, and was younger with no children, I dont think I would have allowed myself to follow my heart the way I have.

My partner & I wrote mostly in 1987 and quit December 1987 when he asked for more than I could give. He arrived 21 years ago on my porch St Pat's Day 1988. It took living together 20 weeks before we decided to become a couple!
Jon had two years left to serve when we first met thru letters, spent full time inside, so no parole or probation on release.
We met in person on his release, and two months after, we married. Married 4 yrs now, coming up soon..

Yes, I got a call at work to say he was on my porch and I said my porch does not have a phone! He only came for the weekend before going to find fame & fortune in California, or that was his plan. Writing to him for less than a year was a changing point in my life at that time. It was a good surprise to see him, just a weird experience expalining to boss lady that I had a close friend unexpectantly in town...
Many i know are with men doing life, some were together before incarceration and some met after. I know personally ladies that have stuck by their men for more than 12 years of incarceration and still going strong, while others have just been a floating fantasy.![]()
