I have searched the boards but can not find what it is I am looking for. I have a PP (not the one that sent me the b-day present) that just wrote me and told me that someone or something (not really sure) is sending me money that I then need to send to him for the phone. Why would he need me to do this? Can't anyone send him money? I don't even know him, I mean we have only just started to write about a month ago. What do I do if this money comes?

Its sounds extremely fishy. There is obviously a reason why this thing/person can not send him a money order directly. He would get into trouble for that so he is attempting to launder the funds through you. That’s how it sounds to me anyway. I also don’t like that he’s just abruptly telling you its happening and not requesting your permission. These men really can be disrespectful of women in some cases! That’s bull****.

What I would do if I were you is wait and see if this arrives in the mail but DONT OPEN IT. Just do a "refuse delivery" and have it returned to sender. You don’t want to get involved with this.

Generally what happens is this.

Someone sends you money. Usually a check or money order which is usually, by the way, fraudulent. You not knowing this, deposit it into your account, and send him your money. Then you get a note from your financial institution letting you know the check or MO did not clear for whatever reason(s).

Would I do this? Hell no! I would tell him I would not be able to assist in this matter.

I was thinking it was something like that. Thanks. I didn't even know until the letter I got yesterday so that is what I will do.

Yes, especially where money comes into play. I usually ask myself "why can't the inmate accomplish this on their own?" If you cant answer that question with any degree of certainty, chances are, they are up to something and being evasive with you.

Even if it isn't a scam like Skye said and the money order is correct, where the funds are coming from would no doubt be dubious. If i was you this person sounds like he is not really wanting a friend. I would say my goodbye's and look in the needing mail section of WAP.

You know what else set me off? In the letter he states, "don't worry about it, I will tell you later." I am thinking why can't he explain it there. I mean he was already writing about it.

Yeah i think he probably means he will tell you after you have all kinds of bounced check fees on your account. Most likely you would never hear from him again once he got the money of course. Like Skye mentioned, its probably just a scam perpetrated on new or unsuspecting pen pals.
