I have a young daughter, and i would support her choices KNOWING the way she was raised and the person she is today. Would i like it? To be honest i find that hard to answer not knowing what her potential husbands charges were, be he innocent or guilty.
To me some people i have known have worked white collar jobs, lived in up market housing, and behind closed doors beat the crap out of their wife. So an address does not phase me, but more who the person is.

I think you need to talk to those around you, no matter the consequences. You both need all the support you can get as i'm sure it will not be an easy path to travel. You both seem smart. 3 years is a long time, and who knows what will take place. I sincerely wish you all the best in the choices you make.

I'm 20 also so here goes. Being 20 I can see where you are coming from you may feel like you are too young and that may be true on the other thad you may feel like your old enough. I have even been put in a situation like that but the guy was never locked up we was high school sweethearts and we just knew we wanted to be with each other. But you have to think about it like this when I was 15 I liked guys with long hair well now I hate it. the best thing you should do it wait with being so young we are not set in our ways and something that you like today you may hate later. I would wait to get married but I know it may seem like forever but you will be glad that you did like when you are 25 or something like that or at least till you get out of school you will have a better idea of the adult that you want to be we may think that we are adults now but honey we ain’t we still have some growing up to do so do it if its right he will still be there and I’m sure you may have your parents blessing at that time.

I was 23 when I became engaged, and I did tell everyone close to me. However, when we married, it was a surprise, and I just came back and told my family...they couldnt come anyway, and mom was in Florida. When they gave us our date, we had only 2 weeks to prepare. In retrospect, I would have made everyone come, or, at least had a nice little dinner afterwards with family and friends to celebrate.
I agree with the others who said, if you accept a proposal, you should have no prob telling anyone. He is good enough to have a ring on your finger, why hide it? One thing is, you do find out fast who your friends really are.
