I noticed someone mentioned pelican bay in another thread, so thought I'd look up some more about it on the internet. I found this article which I found really interesting, so thought I would share..

I got a pal in the SHU i brought it up in another tread. I got a letter and a drawing from him today. And like with other pals in any jails you just have to be lucky i guess. I dont have to be strong cause he is strong enough to do his time in the SHU he never complains. Dont forget people in the SHU are gang leaders and they have to be in the SHU or else they will run the gang from the inside out. Even in the SHU they manage to send hitlists out and stuff like that.

Its rough at pelican bay but not inhumane. At least in my opinion it isnt. Imma send this to my pal to see if he agrees with me

I agree my Father was a CO or what was then called a prison guard.
It is a hard job.

I have nothing against COs or Police Officers. I try to always take things on a case by case individual basis. Grand, sweeping generalizations about people tend to always be wrong, incomplete, biased and just not a good idea.

There are horrible, unfair COs that abuse their power. There is also a substantial amount of corruption within the system and COs can very often be at the root of it simply because they are in a position of authority over caged and confined human beings. That allows them very easily to become involved with it if they choose.

BUT, not all of them will run amuck and start up with criminal ventures on the inside. Some COs are decent human beings in a very dangerous, stressful, emotionally demanding job. My pen pal has explained it like this to me. Some are decent, some are not so decent and all the cons know who is who. No one is pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. That’s it in a nutshell basically.
