Default MARRIAGE in TDCJ PRISON - ANYONE?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has gotten married to their man while he is in a TX prison. I am trying to find out some more info but having a hard time. It is unclear if after an inmate is married, and is in den. pop if he will get contact visits. If anyone has gotten married please share your experience with us, what happened, how did it go etc.

    Thanks!

You can ONLY have CONTACT visits in the STATE PRISONS in TEXAS if you are related.

IF you marry the inmate, then yes, you will have contact visits.

In Texas the marriages are done by proxy only, unless that has changed in the last year.

Hi, I have several links to sites that explain proxy marriage in Texas if you're interested. It seems every county and every county clerks office and Judge has their own take on proxy marriages.

YES! I would love for you to give me the links that you have in regards to proxy marriage. I will tell you I never thought I would even be in this situation ( in love with a prisoner) but I have to tell you I now think very different then I did before! We started of as pen pals...and are now deeply in love and planning our future...amazing!

    Thank you again!

TDC has not changed you can only get married by proxy . This means some one stands in for the prisoner where the wedding is preformed .If I recall it has to be in TX . Yes you can have contact visits if you are married . If I recall right you will not be able to exchange rings . Your marriage has to be approved by TDC . It was my

As for visits a person in what TDC calls" special relationships" can also have a contact visit this usually is approved by that units warden SA2s can have contact visits . There are not many SA 2 s in TDC .

Some cannot have contact visits at all those on Death Row and in Ad Seg along with verified gang members and other STGs .

In my case, We did not have to have the marriage approved. In fact, the Chaplin's at the unit both told me that the prison are not supposed to have anything to do with the actual marriage because of the high divorce rate. They can not condone it or be against it, they have to remain neutral.

There is a proxy form that has to be filled out by the offender. Once he fills it out, you take the form and the person he names as his witness, and you go to the court house. They give you the license, you wait 3 days, and go before the justice of the peace, or any one who is able to actually preform the ceremony. They do the ceremony, then they take the license back to the court. The court mails it to you.

In my case, a little sweetness went a long way, and the judge who married us walked it to the clerks office with me and they had me come back in a few hours to pick it up.

You must indicate to the court that you need a CERTIFIED copy of it. In order for TDCJ to recognize the marriage they MUST have the original or a certified copy of the certificate.

You mail the certified copy to INMATE RECORDS and send a short note that you were married to offender so and so , TDCJ # 123456 (whatever the number is) and that you need your status changed.

I really don't understand why they don't allow a brief chapel wedding like so many other prisons do seems very unfair if you ask me bad enough having to go home alone but the marriage by proxy would be very surreal no real ceremony involved (sigh)

TDC if asked why they do not allow marriages in prison would use the excuse of "security " and the politicians do not want to look " soft on crime " . Then I never really gave it any thought . Though I know of a number of guys who did get married from both good and bad reasons .
I am fairly sure TDC while not making it official frowns on these marriages .
