I know this sounds stupid, but I have a friend who came back from a foreign country, and she has brought me Louis Vuitton and Gucci handbags. I wouldn't know a real one if it bit me in my butt!! Any savvy people here who can give me a few clues as to how I know they are real? How much are they worth? How much are knock-offs worth? Any advice would be appreciated.

As a rule real louis Vuitton has it's brand on the zip pulls, fakes don't, also if its the classic Vuitton the piping will be in leather and not be self piped. Really the quality of Vuitton should stand out it should have body and not collapse on itself the outer fabric should be lined in a brownish canvass unless its a handbag and not a keepal their traditional holdall come bag, not particularly luxurious but very strong and finally the padlock should also be stamped Louis Vuitton, fakers don't generally bother.

As for the Gucci well it's hard to say, but again quality should tell you if it's the real thing and a trip to the nearest Gucci store and some discreet comparing should confirm your thoughts one way or another.

The fact is that even the smartest people carry fakes it doesn't really matter, the copies are so good there's very little between them except the qulaity of the materials used and the fine detail in the finish, only close inspection by a well trained eye would be able to tell, so I say write a thank you letter and enjoy them.

well a Louis Vuitton starts at about £300.00 so about $600.00 and then just goes up and up, their travelling trunks which are wardrobes really sell for over $25,000.00 approx, but these are timeless classics beautifully made and built to last. GUCCI I suppose start at about the same as Vuitton but they vary.

These prices are only estimates from when I last bought Vuitton luggage, holdalls, suitcases etc, have never owned a GUCCI handbag, somehow I just couldn't carry it off.

Lee,when I went to Turkey in 2003 I bought what I thought was a rolex watch.I showed it to my friend,who travels more than I do and knows about these things and she said that many peddlers sell brand name "fakes". though she know how to decipher the real from not I am right there with you-I have NO clue how to tell the differnce. though there are ways to tell..hopefully I WIll be marter the next time around`RK

I've always heard that the LV on Louis Vuitton are never on a seam but if this is common knowledge then most certainly the people who produce the fakes are aware of it.
