HI...I HAVE JUST WRITTEN TO MY FIRST PENPAL BUT HAVE JUST READ THAT SOME PRISONS HAVE TO HAVE A RETURN ADDRESS ON ENVELOPE OR THEY WON'T BE ACCEPTED. I DID NOT DO THIS AND AM NOW WORRIED THAT HE WON'T GET IT AND I WON'T KNOW AND HE THINKS I HAVE'NT WRITTEN. HE'S AT, ( edited by moderator). ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. MAZ

It is advisable to write you full name and address on the reverse/back of the envelope, and write on the front " for return address see reverse". generally I wirte that at the bottom of the envelope.

It may be an Idea to write him a quick note again and say what may have happened to your first letter.

As a rule it is unwise to publish either your pals name or the prison he/she is in.

I will edit the name of the prison out of you wish it to be public please feel free and re-post.

most of the states do require there is a return addy on the envelope. I`ve forgotten to put it on a couple of times, and had my letter returned to me.
Man, it is soooo annoying when I do that! As if it doesn`t take long enough already for snail mail.
My pals got a notification from the prison, telling them that a letter had been returned to the sender because of a rules infraction; so they did know I had written.
Or had tried to!
Good idea to send a quick card or note.

Hi Madmaz and welcome to WAP. It probably depends on the prison but I have one pp I write too and I never but a return address on his letters (he knows it) and he gets them every time. However, the post office does not approve of that practice and obviously most prisons don't either.

SENT IT BACK TO ME!!!! OK????? lol

I guess with the ones with no return addy they tell the inmate if he pays the postage, the letter will be sent on to his fmaily etc. And they can resend it back to him, with an addy if they want to.
It was the ones with no inmate#, or with "stickers" on them, or the ones that had a little card with a "rude" cartoon on it, that got returned to me.

Lol feline almost there with the lawyer thing. You know am good at investigating and stirring up things at the prison.

At least they get to send them to the FMAILY (sorry) and they can then send them back to the PP.
And I hope the toothfairy at least includes some quarters for ya...
