Default First time writing to a prisoner / Questions

I dont know if any of you watch the show "OZ" on HBO but after watching that show for the last couple weeks I decided to get online and find a website that would help me find a prison penpal. I went to a lot, but THIS website seems to be the best I've seen so far I found a guy to write to. It's weird though because I do want more then one pen-pal but everyone else I look at I only think of the 1st one. So I wrote him a lonnnng (3.5 pages...) letter. Actually its 3 plus on the back of one page it has all my favorites/likes/dislikes... I didn't know whether or not to write a long letter or short one. I just figured that someone who's in jail for a long time probably wants them as long as they can get... lol and if thats what he wants, I picked the right person.

    Question:
When I send a letter, does it go right to him or does the facility read it first? If they do, does it still go to him in its original envelope?

its an odd question but i have personalized stationary and he'd know everytime a letter was from me or not.. it would help keep me distinguished from any other PP's.

Also- did any of you have these thoughts when you got your first PP? what kinds of letters t write..how long should they be.. what kinds of things can we send in packages? My PP and I have the same birthday and I'd like to send him something if I can..

Your letter will probally be opened before it gets to him, but it will be in the same envelope. I wondered the same things before i wrote, if you decide to write more than one make sure they are not at the same facility cause that could cause probs.

    Hi Rain Soul,

Nice to see you on WAP.

I'm sure that we all had the same thoughts as you when we started writing to pp's. I think the thing to remember is that once the correspondance starts, you get to know each others characteristics and personalties. One of my pp's is painfully shy, he doesn't reveal too much so my letters to him are full of what I've been up to and what life is like in London. But another of my pp's is bit of a philosopher and thinker, so the letters to him can be pages and full of allsorts of thoughts and ideas.

Anyway, I really hope that you enjoy the experience as much as I do!

    Welcome to WAP, RainSoul.
I'm sure that your new PP is going to love your letter whether it is one page or ten pages. Chances are that they will be delighted to hear from you. Over time, you will begin to know your new PP and the letters will get even longer.
    Happy writing. :-)

Hey Rainsoul, when I first started writing to my guys I enclosed a Q&A page and it was full of questions like what kinds of foods you like, if you could rewind time where would you go back to, are you left or right handed. they really like those things

Wow Most guys I know now wouldnt never touch a quiz for girls/by girls. If they like them in prison maybe more guys should go to prison... ah which reminds me, any of you ever read any "Chicken soup for the soul" books? do you think my PP would like that? I know those are always good reads for me.. but I dont know how guys would react to that book
