    Default Rape in prison article

I was messing around and came across this site. If you are interested in prison rape info go to this site look up an article that was published in 2001 by Scott L anderson. he is a former prison guard and did not sugar coat the article a bit ( some may be offensive) the article tell who is likely to be raped in prison, how they can avoid being raped (fight back) and the different sex classes they have there in prison. I hope if you are interested in this topic you wont have any trouble finding it. if you do read it let me know so we can discuss it. it also said the spread of HIV is 6 times higher in prison than outside. something to think about.

I've just downloaded the article as a pdf file - anyone who cant find it, e mail me (e mail addy in profile)and I'll send it to them. Will comment when I've had chance to read it myself, but at first glance the number of rapes in prison looks worryingly high

Well I've jsut read the article in question and I have to say it is scary, i'm shocked that it is so prolific across all the states and the fear of HIV and Aids......I'm just gob smacked......I thought it would probably be bad in the US prisons, but, hell.......

Just read the article - it's worse than I expected. Just how prevalent is Aids/HIV in prisons? And even more worrying is the comment about guards getting attacked if there's a riot, especially the women - what would make anyone want to work in the prison service?
Plus it's something for any right minded person with a pp to be concerned about, though I can imagine the feelings of helplessness and unwillingness to say anything that they must feel, especially the straight men, for whom it must be their worst nightmare, knowing that if they do report it they either won't be believed or they will suffer dire consequences.
It's left me feeling distinctly uneasy.

    Regards

I'm reading a book now, called, "Within These Walls, by Rev. Carroll Pickett, published in 2002 by St. Martin's Press.

Its a great and very sad book. The minister makes you feel exactly like you are there.
He was assigned to the "Walls Unit" which did the executions, but before that he worked with the general population.

It told the the most tragic story of a young man who had just come in, and was refusing his physical until he spoke to a minister. He was badly injured from a rape by 3 other inmates. They also told him (the
rapists), that if he revealed their identity, he would be raped again by them.
This experience destroyed the young man. The first day he was broken down and crying, but after the next two days, he withdrawn , all the joy went out of him, and he was placed in the psych. unit

    This is Huntsville in Texas.

Another guy I wrote to before in the same place, but not unit, was also raped by 3 men, and he was charged with Conspiracy to commit Felony Murder, for defending himself.
He won't even be up for parole for this until 2034. He's trying to correct his records.

Anyway, the rest of the book tells of the instition of executions again in Texas, and each chapter tells the story of a man's last hours. It sounds like a depressing book, but it isn't at all, because also touching things do happen.

Hi! Iv'e been reading this site for a while now but finally decided to join in with my own thoughts. This topic is SOOOO SAD.
I have someone I really care about in prison that meets exactly the criteria there talking about in the article, except for the fact that hes been in-out most his life, and most of his family is in the system also. I'm just scared cuse he is so small built, and WHITE,like the artcle menchined. I sure hope hes doing OK.

waterstreet, here is some info I got from another site. this site is far better than the first in offering info, plus there are also real accounts of prison rape stories that are really bad. go to www.hrw.org/reports/2001/prison/report.html again I hope you guys have no problem finding this site. it states under article V1 body and soul, that in 1997 35,000 to47,000 prisoners were infected with HIV. another 8,9000 had aids. currently Aids is the 2nd leading cause of death among prison imates. What is the first leading cause of death among inmates? does anyone know?
