mistake
hi all,
well i am new at this pen-pal thing and i have made a mistake. and my question is, will it get my pp in trouble?
the mistake was ( this is and was my very first letter to a pen-pal) but i sent 2 stamps in my letter to make it easier for my pp to respond back. well after sending the letter i then found out they can NOT get stamps that way, and since the letter is all ready mailed what can i do? most important i do NOT want to get my pp in trouble, in fact in my letter i sent with the stamps i even stated that about the stamps.
please advise
p.s i wont make that mistake again

No worries. The mail will go through the mail room first. They open each env. and look for contraband. The stamps will be considered as such. They will send the inmate a slip and he/she, depending on the facility will have the option to send them back to your or to destroy them. No worries. I don't think a one time thing would get him/her in trouble. I sent a photo of me taken on the property of the prison, none of the prison or the fencing was in the pictures and it was considred contraband... they gave my pal the option... he did not get in any trouble. He is in polunsky in texas. It all depends on the facility.

I did the exact same thing when I first wrote to my pp and as far as I know it didn't get him in any trouble, they just didn't give him it (in my case it was n international stamp coupon). I also told him in the letter thqat I was enclosing it and when he replyed he thanked me for the thought even though he didn't get it. All prisons are different but your pp will probably still get the letter but without the stamps.
If you do want to help them out to get stamps you can put money in their prisoner trust account and then they can buy stamps from the prison commisionary.
I hope I have been of some help and I really don't think you need to worry it was just an innocen mistake.

Dont worry all will be fine! he certainly should not get in trouble for it.

Don't worry. I did the very same thing in my first letters going to the same state. One was allowed through and two were returned. The pap did not get in any trouble. I just sent a note with the letter when I remailed it back to them them know what happened.

He won't get in trouble. Probably will be told to send back or destroy. It's not a big deal

Just for your info bishop, all of the state DOCs have websites....some better than others...and they have all the information you need to know in terms of rules for mailing inmates.
In my case I printed it off early on in my Pen Pal relationship so if I had any doubts about what to send I had the rules handy.
Some prisons will cut a little slack...others won't!
I made a bunch of mistakes in the early months and my Pen Pal did not get into any trouble for my ignorance.
You'll be ok.

can i ask a stupid ?? ? why are you not allowed to send stamps to certain prisons and yet you are allowed to send them to others? do they think that there might b drugs on the stamps or something? i know that every prisoner i have written to is not allowed to get a polaroid photo - but that is right across the board - everyone who i have written to has stated that on her ad. but stamps always tend to b different in different institutions?

good question gobbi, and i agree, whats the harm? but i guess they have their rules, cant fight that. was an honest mistake
