In the U.S., most prison facilities deliver mail on the same schedule as the U.S. Postal Service (Mon-Sat) excluding Sundays and legal holidays.

There are always exceptions, but unless there is a legitimate penological interest in holding mail, it cannot be done.

If any facility is NOT delivering mail on a Saturday, as a matter of practice, the Postmaster General of that State should be contacted.

In order to be granted an exception to Saturday mail delivery, the facility (or Federal BOP / State DOC) must have shown that not delivering mail on that particular day has a legitimate penological interest.

Most Federal facilities have been granted exclusionary rights in the requirement to deliver mail on Saturdays. Many States have also applied to the Courts for such relief.

This falls under the premise of "legitimate penological interest". The size, complexity, and security level of the institution, the degree of sophistication of the inmate confined, the availability of staff and security personnel, and other reasonable variables requires flexibility in correspondence (mail) procedures.

I know that my PP only gets mail M-F, in Texas. I don't know the reason for that.
