Earliest release date generally indicates the date that the person could be released, IF they meet parole eligibility requirements. In other words, it is the first date that they are eligible to be CONSIDERED for parole release.

Latest release date typically means that is the MAX OUT date. The max date is the end of the total sentence, and the inmate will be released no later than that, unless he/she ends up committing a criminal offense while incarcerated, resulting in prosecution and additional sentencing.

BOP (Federal Bureau of Prisons) is different than the State Department of Corrections, in that there is currently NO Federal parole. There is a "supervised release" program, which is similar to the old parole system.

The "projected release date" is that date at which the BOP expects that the inmate will be first eligible for "supervised release". If the inmate is serving a determinate sentence (one that must be served in its entirety), the projected release date then represents the MAX OUT of the sentence - assuming the inmate doesn't commit further criminal offenses while incarcerated.

This is why you will never see a DOC or the Federal BOP list a release date in more DEFINITE terms. It will always be shown as "earliest", or "projected", but never DEFINITE release date.

LawDog on the Bop for the projected date is this the true date he or she will be released? I know l should understand but l really don't. I know the ad says the earliest and the latest, but the bop states the projected, so lm curious as this being the date he or she will be released?
    Thanks,
    Amy

The terms used in the ads on the WAP website are GENERIC. They may or may not be identical to the terms used by the DOC or BOP.

It is best to search the sites for the DOC's or the Federal BOP to determine what their definition is for earliest release date, projected release date, etc.

That information is available, with a little search effort on your behalf.

    Good luck.

i know in va from expierence earliest release date is the time u will serve with ur good time for example va u do 85% of ur time if you dont get another charge or to many tickets in the prision ur at so for istnace u will do 9 monthes on a year

latest release date will be your full sentence to what ever the judge sentenced u to..

and BOP for federal they dont get good time in va its usually day for day so same thing as the latest release date..
