I had an idea to play a game of chess with my penpal. I have a chess game on my computer that can save your current game. I would start by making a move or having the computer make a move, then print out the current board and mail it with my letter. They could indicate their move on the paper and send it back. Once I get their response, I would reload the game and make thier move. The computer would move. I would print the board, mail, and wait for their next response. You could do this with several penpals, saving the game with their name so it would be easy to keep track.

Has anyone else done something like this? I saw one penpal WAP pp with "Play chess? Send a move." in his ad.

What a nice idea!! I know I have made up crossword puzzles to send to my pp's. After I have written for a while and learned things about them. I make one pertaining to their own information. It may include places he has mentioned having visited, his parents' names or birthplaces, names of friends inside or just about anything. It makes it easy to solve and it's something to do. I have done these for inmates having to do with something they have an interest in too. Such as music. I have done puzzles that are nothing but music trivia for those who like music.

I think it's great to do something 'extra' to give them even more of a reason to look forward to your letters, than just hearing about your day and all. (Not that that isn't something they truly enjoy, because they DO!!) But I think you know what I mean.

Keep up the good work of finding something new and different to do. They will love you for it!

I like to make word searches (hard ones). I've created several for those who like word puzzles but for one guy. He hasn't given me enough key words to make a small puzzle much less a large one and we've been writing for months! Sheesh! LOL
