Hey all I have a question about turn around time and what really happens to the mail when it gets to the prison.
1.Do they read your mail? I know they check for contraband but do they read it.
2. whats the real turn around time for someone you're writing out of state. when the letter gets to the prison does it take days to get to the prisoner?

Oh, by-the-way, when I worked at the prison, I logged in the mail but didn't read it. I worked nights (7p-7a) & just did what the day shift didn't get done. Most of the letters, etc had already been processed & passed out. Most I had to log in was the 3rd class - newspapers & mags, etc.

YES, they told me some wild stories about mail that was incoming/outgoing. So, it is "SCANNED" to an extent, but rarely read.

At county, the jail administration did the mail. The COs didn't have anything to do but pass it out when it came our way. I think they scrutinized the mail more at county, mainly because there wasn't as many (only about 100+ inmates) compared to 1500+ inmates at the prison. The prisons are dealing with sheer volumes of letters/mail.

Also from the time I send a letter from MS to CA & get one back is about a week -- that is if they write back quickly. That's the furtherest I write.

Sometimes my inmates have jobs & school that keep them busy & they don't get to write right back. So, I guess it depends on the inmate & his/her status.

All prisons are different but my pen pal in california doesnt get my letters for sometimes up to two weeks. Even longer at times....

they can play with mail at times and right now they are checking on of my guys and they are looking at some of his mail to me, it is opened and some they just take time to post. it is bogus arri

My one friend in AZ, his mail comes to me opened and stamped on the inside, "INSPECTED", and I just want to know how the heck they stamp it on the inside of the envelope when they just slice and tape one side...his mail takes forever to get here-there is like a two week turn around..
