I write to an inmate in New York and recently sent a picture - this was not received - wondered if anyone could give me an idea of why- previously this has not been a problem. The picture i sent was just a passport sized head shot - can't think of any reason at all why it hasn't been allowed . Hope someone can help

Was it returned to you or he just never got it? Normally, they tell the inmate what the problem was and allow them the option of paying to have the item (a photo in this case) returned to sender or if they cant pay, destroyed. Sometimes they might hold onto the item for a period of time so the inmate can acquire the money to have it returned. They are normally not unreasonable about this.

Im wondering if you heard nothing other than it went missing, if it fell out and was lost? Passports photos are tiny. Other than that, Im uncertain. Maybe someone else knows.

It was slightly bigger than a passport pic , the letter was received but the picture was not. In all the years i have been writing to my penpals i've not encountered this before so just wondered if anyone would know why.

Hmm, in that case I dont know exactly but since he did receive the letter but without the photo, that still points towards it falling out and getting lost. Was it close to this size?

If it was not the normal size of a photo its possible it just slipped out when they were checking for contraband. They do actually slice open the envelope, pull out the letter and feel inside for anything that might be taped up in there. So hopefully its no big deal and you can just send another or make a copy of the origional and re-send.

I have written another letter and enclosed a copy of the photo i sent it was bigger than the passport one so i guess it has been lost maybe as they were opening it

I suspect it fell out during opening process by prison mail room. Like others I would send another, I use glassince envelopes for sending postage to those that can get such. As long as I put the inmate name & number on it, so far no problems, just no taping!!

I really dont know. If they return it back again, you can make personal stamps from the picture. I never hear they dont allow stamps on an enveloppe
