hiya, im new to this site, and was thinking about writing to an inmate, but am abit weary of using my home address, it is safe to do this? as im scared somehow my address will get passed on to someone else or i'll get a knock on the door one day from someone i dont know! im sorry if i sound really thick, ive just never done anything like this before and dont know whats what, it it safe to use your home address when writing to a prisoner? thanks sammi x

Here in the States (USA) many find it easier to use a postal box, though after awhile I give sane persons my home address. If overseas, I have never heard of a problem, and in 24 years of writing inmates I have never had a problem with those I have given my home address to. Writing is an adventure, enjoy it!

It all depends on you. If you live in the states, and are uneasy about sharing your home address, by all means use a postal box.

It is a thing of ease as opposed to a sense of security as to why I use a postal box.

I get my post earlier, I don't have to worry about water getting into the mail box, or the neighborhood kids opening the mailbox and putting my mail in random mail boxes in our small subdivision (which does happen).

thanks for the replies! i didnt think anyone would answer! lol, well im in the uk, so it probably was a really stupid question to ask, just coz i got a baby though, wanted to hear what other people thought. thanks, xx

Hi Sammi welcome to Write A Prisoner.

I use a Post Office Box but its just because that's where I receive my mail anyways. Most of my pals know my exact home address plus I have 2 kids.

I'm not afraid because its not my place to judge them for their crimes I don't even look up their crimes for this reason I accept them as who they are not what they did in the past.

i use my home address but that's because i'm overseas if you feel more comfertable with a po box just do it i guess i would do the same when lived in the us.

I use a P.O Box, for all my mail anyhow. The odds of your home addy being abused are highly unlikely. Yet, if it brings peace of mind, why not it does no harm and should not upset anyone.
