My Mood: | | 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... Hello,
I've just got a question regarding 'reporting' a penpal... I was just wondering, what you can report a inmate for??
If you've read my blog, then you would know my situation, if not, I'll try and briefly explain - He has been playing games with me at at least one other girl that I know of, trying to get us to marry him and telling us alot of lies and playing games.... also trying to play us off against each other and things... he is NOT a kind person.....
Is this sort of thing something that I can report, and if so, is there anything that can be done? Or can you only report them for official abuse like being threatened or something?.... I understand if thats the case, because it is quite 'difficult' issue..... My concern is that he will be able to convince some other poor girl of all his lies and games, and I dont think it's fair that anyone be played like that, its cruel, and wrong..... Well, morally wrong anyway.
Thanks for your help and advice on this matter

My Mood: | | Re: 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... If you feel like it you can copy his letters and contact his DOCandask who to speak to about scams by offenders . they will investigate him and if thy have enough evidence he in fact can face free world charges . If we do this enough and they not only catch major case but free world charges that will include a enhancement for both doing it from a prison and being a convicted felon . He will end up with more time for a few measly bucks .
It should not be tolerated and when found out yes we in the free world will report them it we become known that they will get into a lot of trouble and maybe more time to do , a lot of the scamming will stop . The games and scams only hurt those who are sincer and maybe want a friend some are looking to start a whole new life on release and by making a few friends prior to release it i start . Just one thing to think of . He chose to scam he should pay the price and not ruin it for others .

My Mood: | | Re: 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... Thanks ladies!!
I appriciate your responses.... I understand that there isn't really anything that writeaprisoner can do, I was just hoping that 'maybe' this would be against their policy or something, and they could do something for bringing their site into disreupte or something like that, because people like him are giving this website a bad name....
But like I said, I do understand that there isn't anything that can be done when it isn't really anything illegal, its just 'morally' wrong what his doing.
Thanks again everyone

Even if it is not illegal they still can possibly catch a major case and sit in Ad seg for a while the almost certaily will lose mail and phone privileges /semi right . IN TDCJ they would and also lose good time f . That would hurt them in parole or mandatory supervision depending on the laws at time of conviction .
I would contact their DOC and let them deal with the consequences of their actions . If they do make a threat ofr write abusive things thay could still face free world charges .It is a felony ot use the US mail to harass a person of scam. If you are a felon you get a enhancement . It is almost always a infraction to abuse mail and it isalmost always a major case report the SOB . The only way way to let them know we in the free world will not tolerate it and thy cannot get away with scaming and abuse it to contact their DOC and report them . Eventually they will learn it cannot be done easily this is why I encourge reporting them to their DOC

My Mood: | | Re: 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... ASE, have you read her blog? My heart goes out to her but, games of the heart, do not come under the DOC or laws. Inside or out with circumstances as this. It gives other inmates a bad name when others inside really want a friend,or ends up more to write.

My Mood: | | Re: 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... It is sad that there are offenders who do this to kind people offering friendship.
I am sorry you had to go through this, but you have handled it the best way one could.
If he does write back an 'abusive' or 'aggressive' letter you can contact the mail room and /or wardens office asking them to block all correspondence from him based on that sort of letter.

I forget to mention it in my blog, but I now also have letters of him asking for money from me... So I guess my 'case' is building, I'll just continue to keep hold of everything he writes me for now, and maybe I will see if theres anything I can do!!
As I've mentioned before, I'd just really like to be able to do something to try and stop him from doing this kind of thing to other women.... There are alot of 'lonely' girls out there like me who would love to believe that someone like him is genuine, just like I did!!!
Thanks again everyone for your responses, I really appriciate it

My Mood: | | Re: 'Reporting' a Pen Pal... Chicksta, I can ask you for money, it is your choice whether to or not. No different there then the outside world. If threats or other that is a different story. I think you have handled it well, big world you cannot protect others choices nor hearts at the end only yours. Just staright talk I know how it must hurt which brings anger, but you are worth to much, to spend anymore of yourself on that.

Based on which state he is in, he can get in trouble for asking for money.
In Texas if the recipient is not on the offenders visitation list and he/she asks for money, it is called solicitation and is a major case.
