So This is my first time on the forums.. To date I had never even thought of corrosponding via letter or internet with any one who has met the unfortunate fate of being incarcerated. but..i stumbled upon your website and thought..hmm i have the time... why not try to brighten someones day and possibly help out as well as make a friend or two..

Now you know how i got here...here is my question. Many forum websites offer an irc link to live irc chat... Is it possible that the prisoners ..when on their email time or phone time could talk to you live via irc through this forum link?

I dont know someone may have already asked...this avenue may have already been explored but i just wanted to throw it out there just in case it has not.

hey sammy,

generally prisoners do not have access to the world wide web. if they are able to email, their messages are either handwritten, then scanned, then deposited into their email buddies inbox via a third party company, or in the case of trulincs, which is something the federal prisons are bringing in, I think they are able to type their messages, but they are not connected to the internet at any time, they type the messages, and then they are sent via a third party. hope this helps.

I will probably ask alot of seriously new questions before it is all over. I've just written my first letter only yesterday and now I find my self more excited than I ever believed to get a reply lol.

I still think that, for this site, it would be a great tool to impliment IRC just to share information or have that support group there 24/7. As long as the IRC were monitored and admined properly it would probably greatly affect the community in a positive way. Just imo though.
