My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother If you have already established he is in Estelle Unit, or at least an inmate by that name, you might want to try contacting the prison by phone. I’m sure there must be an established protocol for this situation when people are looking for long lost family or loved ones that may be incarcerated. I would start with a phone call or at least a letter to the administration. Be prepared to show them ID on your end.

My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother We are not inmates. This site is for pen pals and people who want to find inmates to write. Most prisoners do not have access to computers or internet. So YOU will need to contact him in some way by either phone or letter. If you send a letter, it should probably go certified mail. I’m not sure who the best person to receive it is. Maybe the warden. I would try a phone call first as that is faster and chances are you will get someone there that can tell you what the next step is to determine if this is definitely your brother. I looked up the record for that inmate and he would be 45 now so that sounds about right going by the age. I would try to get some kind of confirmation on it. His middle name, where he was born, parent names etc...details that only you and he would know if you are related.

My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother Use the TDCJ offender locater link he is there if that is the right name
If you wish to use the locater make sure your pop up blocker is off it needs to have a a pop up to work
There you will get his name and other pertain info
If you want to write him
Use a plain envelope do not put any colors .stickers ect or decorations it they will reject it.
use a complete return address it must be fully legible
you haveto have hisfull nameand use hisTDCJ numbver it is provied in the offender locater
Estele is a max security unit .Technically all TDCJ units are max security but They do not work all that way . Estelle is one that does . So you might have a bit of a wait .TDCJ might not deny or conform him being thee r over the phone .The Unit almost definetly will not.
here is a bit more good luck to you .

My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother ASE, the only reason I would be hesitant if I was him to write directly to the inmate is in case it ISNT his brother and you probably understand where I am going with this....without me having to explain. It just seems like there should be a way to confirm it by the documents the Estelle Unit has on file for this inmate. Do you remember what all they asked you or had on file once you went in? I would assume your medical history, psyche evaluation, case, past incarceration and criminal record if any and things of that nature right?

My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother Asha yeah I see where you are going .
The problem is that TDCJ does not give out anything but what you see on the online locater .
To get any more info you have to be on TDCJ's approved contact list but to do that the prisoner sends you slip from a I- 60 from ,TDCJs cover all form for almost all prisoner requests . So it is a catch 22 in this case .
It is actually not to difficult to be apporved by TDCJ I am approved visitor for contact visits!
He will have to take a risk and write this person if it is him in fact . and of course there are other risks to the person he is witting
Estelle is used to hold some of the most violent prisoners and known gang members you might say it is a huge ad seg and close confinement unit . It is worse than Polunasky from what I understand. So it is very unlikely TDCJ will give out much if anything over the phone to anyone not on approved list
Yes they do many interviews and all kinds of test basically it is used to determine where the person will serve their time then goes into a file . Mostly they are concerned with security so if you are a known risk you go to a higher security unit . All TX units are technically max but thy all operate very differently
All he can do is write and figure out things by how the person responds if they do .
Sorry to put a damper on things but I do not want any to get their hopes up
and it does seem as if the person is question is in fact his brother .

My Mood: | | Re: Lookin For Lost Brother I guess you are right. Its worth a shot. It seems he could figure it out with some very simple questions in a letter. I just dont want to see anyone taken advantage of. At the very least, he might make a friend and have a pen pal to write.
