I really enjoy, and look forward to visits with my PP. I have been visiting at least once a month for just over 3 years. She is locked up in Missouri, and there is a thing called the Food Visit. This takes place when an offender is violation free for 90 days, and on a visit you can bring in real food. six dirrerent items with things like condiments are not included in the count. As everyone knows, prison food is usually less than appealing to the palate. It is really a kick to see how much she enjoys having some real food. The look on her face is priceless, it is a look of pure joy. It does not hurt that I am a pretty good cook, and prepare everything myself. I just wish she could stay violation free. It does not happen too often. So far I have been able to do this only 3 times in as many years. The last time I did this, she made up a plate of food, held it up and told me that if she could take this plate back to her housing unit, she could easily sell it for a minimum of $50.00. I belive her too.

And like I think everyone else, it is rather a sad moment when we have to turn around and go our own way when visiting time is over. I have a 4 hour drive home, and I can tell you that the drive home tends to feel like an 8 hour trip. But when all is done I know that I am doing something that makes both of up happy, even if it is only for a short time. Greg

I had a visit with my husband last weekend. Pretty much everything in the original post was the same for me, except I dont drive.

This was the 8th time I had been in 4 1/2 years. It's a 10,000 mile round-trip so I can only do it every 6-8 months. At least we dont have to visit through glass; I know I could not handle that now and so does he. Our first visit was through glass as we weren't married then, but neither of us want to go back to that.

The time goes by so slowly right up to the point where you are sitting in the visitation room, and then all of a sudden 4 hours have passed and you have to leave again. We get 2 x 4hr visits over a Saturday and Sunday. Usually Saturday we spend talking about family business and friends. Sundays are quieter, we spend a bit of time just soaking up being together. But it is such an artificial situatuation, to have to cram in so many words and thoughts into just 8 hours. We cant walk around, he is not allowed to go to the vending machines with me so I have to guess what he might want to eat (though he eats pretty much anything). We have to sit opposite each other across a table that is just too wide to be comfortable when you're holding hands. I can only hug and kiss him for a brief minute at the start and end of the visit.

But I would travel twice as far for half the time if I had to.

I just saw my man a few weeks ago and I'm going again on Tuesday, and everything the original post said was exactly how I feel. The drive up there seems like it takes forever and its only 100 miles away. I try and visit him every 10-15 days, and I still get butterflies each and every time I start the journey up there.

I love & hate visits!

I wait patiently for them to come around....
Sit out in the waiting room like a bag of nerves, feeling sick, being all
jittery like i'm up to summit....

Then you see him walk through the door with the biggest smile you've
ever seen on his face

It's too hard to say goodbye too...we hold hands & practically they're
pulling us apart...and you keep saying i love you, keep your chin up etc...

It's us who do the time too
