While what you say is true....a man can't change what he is by human methods, but I assure you Christ can!! He alone can change any heart and any character defects...to the point where that same individual won't even recognize that old person...I know...because He has changed me...although I was never violent...I still needed a change that only He could bring about...

No matter what happend, it is not your fault, he has never, ever any right to hit you!'
If you let him back in your life, you practicly allow him to hit you because then he thinks: ow if I do it she will forgive me and take me back.
And now he was hitting you but who will say, maybe next time it will be one of your kids, stay stong, you deserve better!
