| Here's what I did. I guess this can only work if you have a cell phone number, but, I paid 36 dollars to change my cell phone number to be as close to (distance) the prison from which my beau is at. I did a little reseach online and found out which towns closest to the prison were supported by my cell phone provider. (i used Telcodata.us for a list ) If you need any help finding out which number is closest- PM me and i can help you find it, that website can be a little confusing, but very helpful!! Now, instead of paying $5.50 per 15 minutes. We get a flat rate of .98 cents So we figured after received 9 calls, it pays for itself. I'm very excited about having to pay them WAY WAY less. It's also good to remember that almost all cell phone companies have free local and long distance calling. So even though you will technically be making long distance calls everyday- because your area code changed, its most likely free. anyways, just an idea. And it's NOT illegal. The only downside, if any, Is that you may have to wait a few days for your phone list to be updated by the prison and the 3rd party provider. Also, Check with the 3rd party about rates on the numbers you think are closest before changing it completely. They can "guestimate" how much the new rate will be. Hope this is helpful to those of you trying to save a little cash during these hard times. cheers! |

| Good idea is right. My cell carrier only charges 9.99 monthly for an additional line. I will be paying them instead of Evercom/CBS

| Believe it or not, I do contract work for a cell phone company and I never thought of it. Already ordered a free phone and will be forwarding calls from the Ky number to my NM number. So my upfront cost is ZIP, they waived the activation fee/new line fee. Loving Hoodwink today

| Be very careful using a call forwarding company in some states it is a felony CO is very big on this . Your best bet is to play by the rules . Getting caught can be very costly. Including losing your visitation privileges , your mail banned at all facilitates in that state . no calls ,your PP catching a major case getting his or her parole set back , additional charges . You can be charged and much more . It is best to play by the rules . While we might not agree or like them , We have to work with in the system to change it and it is happening . Think if TX allows emails to be sent I am sure more is coming . This just takes time Some of your Pals might be put by the time some changes take effect . Do not let that stop you from advocating for more changes ! Contact with the freeworld and healthy relationships in a safe manner reduces recidivism andgives offders a better chance to make it on release .

| Yeah, NY you can't have a call to a cell. Has to be a land line. I paid for ANOTHER land line at my mother's house and that phone is on permanent forward to my cell. Against the rules, yes, but I'm not paying for collect NY to FL. I'll do this until such time as I ever get busted. NY DOCS was such a pain in the neck to begin with.

| How does the prison system know if you are using a cell phone. I have a cell that has a land line number on it. I had a landline in my old house and when I moved I converted it to a cell. So if the dept of corrections were to do a number search it would show as my local phone carrier vs my cell carrier. I do contract work for a cell company and I have seen numbers moved as many as 4 or 5 times and the number always shows the original issuer as the owner. The number only goes back to the origional carrier when you totally give up the line. Thus you can own a number for life.
