Default Transitions

Transitions

We humans are creatures of habit. From the cradle to the grave we condition ourselves to a goal oriented lifestyle.Every morning our first goal is to shower at our fixed time in the morning, followed by choosing which attire we will wear this day. Throughout the day we
follow the same pattern taught to us since infancy.

As grown ups and arrested suddenly all the personal decisions and set goals for our day are snatched from us. We cannot feed our habit of setting a goal for our day. In jail and awaiting trial, we have to stand in line for everything never before imaginable.

Shock is at the prison entrance.. All of our personal possessions are snatched, stripping us of our dignity. This follows with snatching our personal identity. Tearing our personal clothes from our bodies. Stripping our identity and make us look just like anybody else in prison, wearing white clothes and cutting our hair exactly as every prisoner in Texas is required. And this shock is just going in.

With no dignity or identity all of our personal habits and goal oriented lessons learned through life disappear.

For the remainder of our stay in prison, we will be re-programmed. Our new set goals will be to stay ready for the sound of a bell, or holler – and always an order. Suffer the consequences if you do not conform to decision makings not your own. Decisions will now be made for us until released after years of imprisonment. We question why some ex-cons cannot adapt to transition from prison
to freedom on the streets…. It is a no-brainer.

We are programmed not to make decisions on our own. Like the monkey trained in a cage to beg for bananas. The transition will be long and painful, and in most cases, a failure, for we were programmed in institutionalization of the mind.

I`m just saying.

Peanut2 I just simply cannot stay on the side lines as I
mentioned earlier to you. I will not in this case because my
post has been acknowledged and some comments require
my response. First I want to say "Thanks" to Smiley for his
views.

I can understand why readers find it difficult to make a
comment to my posts. They simply find is very hard to do
that because what I write is way past their time, and my
typed text is hard to believe -- in our present time. I also
understand that. My only personally set mission here is to
write of that long ago period of prisons. So Smiley I can
understand your point.

Peanut, hey girl!! I would, and am, very thrilled by your
comment, and your eminent trip up to the Midwest. I
would be honored to meet you...I swear!!
